When Speaking Mandarin Really Helps …

Four days into the Olympics, I’ve interviewed Chinese athletes, hung out with their fans, chatted up locals, bargained with shop owners, and been able to direct taxi drivers EXACTLY where I need to go.
But the biggest advantage to speaking Mandarin here?
