The guys over at Engadget are having way too much fun if you ask me. Here’s some live video they got from the Netgear Press Conference earlier today. I bet Bill Gates was wondering why he didn’t get these type of cheers, or even just a whimper. DeepRock Drive announced at 2008 CES. Danny Socolof and Jeff Henshaw are bringing concerts onto the Web with a unique concept called “socialcasts”They are talking about filming concerts in their high-tech Las Vegas studio and broadcasting them live over the Internet. The tickets only $6.99 each with a portion of the proceeds going to the musicians.

Here is how it works

A band plays in the studio (sound stage with or without a live audience). The shows are filmed with five Sony HD cameras, and each remote viewer can pick which camera angle they want to see. The audience can also vote on the order of the songs on the set list or make their own song requests. It’s like a live version of Sing Star for the Ps2 if you are into that kind of thing. They can also send in messages during the show to the band who sees the feedback on large screens surrounding the stage.

Bands try to drum up support from Web viewers on their Websites and MySpace pages. The fans can then add the bands to their own Web pages. On DeepRockDrive, fans can petition for concerts from their favorite bands. For example if you’ve ever heard of Flight of the Conchords. If the shows get enough votes, it makes it easier for the bands to decide to fly to Las Vegas to record the show.

This is a really interesting concept and who knows some band may actually want to share their revenue with the concert promoter. This payoff for some really good unknown band looking for that big break. Let us know what you think or if you have a band sign up and tell BJ what happens.
