Thanks to Flash Player 10 FotoBooth is running again within the web browser.

Brief History:
Well, it originally started in November 2006 as a Flex 2 application with Java on the back end to save the image to disk.

Along came a new runtime from Adobe called Apollo which allowed FotoBooth to run on the desktop and easily store images to the file system. So FotoBooth was ported to Apollo in March 2007.

It was then ported to Adobe AIR in April 2008. This edition also included integration with flickr to allow for uploading of locally stored images.

Finally, FotoBooth has come full circle and again resides in the browser. But, this time thanks to Flash Player 10, it has new functionality that was never before possible. With Adobe Flash Player 10, FotoBooth users can snap pictures with their web cam and use Pixel Bender technology to add really cool effects to the image, like Fisheye, Deformer, or HexCells. Along with the new ability to save files from a native SWF, FotoBooth can offer the full experience of creating an image with effects and saving the image to the local file system.

To experience FotoBooth, you will need Flash Player 10 and a web cam.

What is next for FotoBooth? Well, I believe there is a new version of AIR due out some time soon. :-)
