Bypass content filtering using Google language tools

April 13th, 2009

This has worked for me for as long as I can remember. To get around a blocked site, as long as i’m not trying to view flash or other 2.0 stuff, I just translate english pages from spanish to english. What happens is any english (which is everything) just gets passed right on, but the results come from google instead of the target site.

For example, say gamestop’s site is blocked, and you just want to see what the top 10 games are in sales. It’s right there on the front page, but you can’t get to it because of some content filtering. Easy enough, go to google.com, click on the “language tools” link right there on the front page. Search for whatever you’re trying to find, and translate english pages from any language TO english.

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&langpair=es|en&u=http://www.gamestop.com

You can just append whatever URL you want to see using the link above. Just replace www.gamestop.com with whatever it is you’re trying to get to. This won’t help you waste away on facebook or youtube.

If you find the language tools pages is blocked, you can probably use google to search for other translation services that will perform the same task. There are more complete ways to set up an internet proxy, like configuring a proxy at home and setting up dynamic dns so you can browse away while away.

But if you’re at work and you’re trying to get to legitimate information in a pinch, yet the site you need has been blocked for some reason, this will git ‘r dun.

WiMax coming soon…er or later

April 2nd, 2009

WiMAX is a wireless digital communications system, also known as IEEE 802.16, that is intended for wireless “metropolitan area networks”. WiMAX can provide broadband wireless access (BWA) up to 30 miles for fixed stations, and up to 10 miles for mobile stations. In contrast, the WiFi (IEEE 802.11) wireless standard is normally limited to about 300 feet. WiMAX will soon be widely recognized to describe wireless Internet access throughout the world.

I wrote a paper about WiBro and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) for one of my Masters courses a couple of years ago!

“Clearwire is teaming up with Google, Cisco and Intel to build a WiMax network in Silicon Valley for software developers to try out new applications on the 4G mobile broadband technology. The network will cover the three companies’ campuses and the region in between them and will span roughly 20 square miles, Clearwire’s Ben Wolff said in a keynote address at the CTIA Wireless show.

Well it’s about time!!! In Korea, Korea Telecom (KT) currently offers 18Mbit/sec down, 4Mbit/sec up for $22 a month with unlimited data usage. Compare that to crapcast, verizon, or any of the so-called “high speed” internet services in the United States.

What is a drum alarm?

February 8th, 2009

What the frack is a drum alarm?! I just started seeing this ad pop up on my site all the time with the image of a blue barrel and a little white keypad thingy on it and i can’t help but wonder what it is!!! If I see it on someone else’s site i’m clicking on it just to find out what it is — but I seriously doubt I need slash want one of whatever they’re selling. So I wonder how many other people will click on the drumalarm ad for just the same reason?

But then I found the google adsense preview tool. So I click on it before realizing it’s going to try to edit my registry and add whatever this thing is to my internet explorer. Um, google? wtf. Are you being run by yahoos all of a sudden or something? So my firefox instead spit out this page when I clicked on it.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt\Google AdSense Preview Tool]
“Flags”=dword:00000001

I guess i’ll just stick to looking at the link properties which is probably the easiest most straight forward way in the first place.

Almost random, wtf ads, drum alarm, google, tool, wtf

Google Chrome - Out of beta?

December 22nd, 2008

<img src=”http://blog.rootninja.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/chrome-volk-racing-rims-wheels-expensive.jpg” alt=”expensive chrome volk racing rims” class=”alignleft” />A piddling while ago, Google announced the removal of the “Beta†shred from their firebrand novel browser. Well is this ascribable to the fact that computing machine manufacturers won’t package junk with “Beta†wall hanging around its neck. The beta thing was cute for the first 1,200 apps, but let’s just give it a rest. chrome, like volk racing rims, right? ahh why not. Yes please, thank you.

ooo! Shiny... beta, browser, chrome, google

How to unban my Google Adsense account

November 18th, 2008

The evil google empire has singled out my website and banned me for no apparent reason what-so-ever.  Those pricks couldn’t handle stroking the big $11 check once every few months for my super duperest blog.

The Google Team is out to get you, how to make them pay in 4 easy steps:

My Adsense account got banned.  Help!

Take a deep breath, calm down, and try to figure out why your account was banned. Know thy enemy.  You’re going to want to find evidence that there has been a mistake and to do that you’re going to need to know what the problem was in the first place.  While reading this, in your head it should sound something like, “well duh”.  Google might just tell you there were invalid clicks and that doesn’t exactly say much.  If you get slashdotted, dugg, or any variation of those with all the other social networking sites out there, you may get an influx of clicks.  If you’re under shared hosting, there’s probably a bunch of miscreants among you, physically sharing your server.  If you’ve ever had a VISA or American Express credit card, you’ve probably been hit with the hold on your account because of irregular usage patterns.  Your problem with google could be this simple in the end. Contact Google Adsense. After you’ve calmed down!  Be professional and courteous to them.  Treat the problem with a cold and calculating seriousness that makes no bones about it.  It’s nothing personal, just business.  Don’t acuse, assault, or in any other terms annoy the people you’re asking to help you out. Do you homework. If you have logs or other forms of evidence that you think proves you and your websites innocence, then by all means send it to them.  Include this type of information in your initial contact.  Don’t wait until your follow up to provide any proof or it might look made-up. Patience Danielson. You may not get an instant response.  And by instant, I mean any time soon.  If you don’t hear anything after a few days, send a follow up message to them.  Wait a few more days and try again.  It would be better to have patience than to irk or otherwise annoy.
