Mohawk Hairstyle Of Pitching Coach Dave Righetti
The San Francisco Chronicle recently reported that SF Giant’s pitching coach (and well-known former no-hitter) Dave Righetti made an unusual bet with pitcher Brian Wilson in order to amp up his pitching style.
After the last trip, Righetti made a bet with Wilson, promising to board the next team flight with his hair styled into a Mohawk if the closer pitched a 1-2-3 inning.
Wilson won with room to spare. He had four perfect innings on the homestand. So, when the Giants flew to Milwaukee on Thursday, Righetti paid off. Sort of.
With the help of his children, Righetti jelled his hair into the shape of a Mohawk. “I couldn’t go full Monty,” the 50-year-old coach said.

Giant’s fans who often go into cardiac distress with Pitcher Wilson on the mound probably have noticed an improvement.
Righetti believes many factors are at play with Wilson’s improved performance : a better delivery, confidence, “and maybe a dinosaur like me having fun with him.”
More fun is in store, because Wilson looked at the gel in Righetti’s Mohawk inspired hair and decided the bet was not paid in full.

“Oh,” Wilson said, “we’re going to see a full-on Mohawk before the end of the year.” Which of course is great news for the San Francisco Giants fan, although maybe not as much so for Dave Righetti and his hair.
