Are 90s Hairstyles Making A Comeback?

The UK’s Guardian, is reporting a return to the 90s and it’s decade of anti-fashion, major grunge and heavily tousled hairstyles.

Are we seriously headed for round two of The Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Donna Mills or Meg Ryan’s famous tousled shag or Demi Moore’s shaved head (GI Jane)?

Or what about the various renditions of the bob hairstyle which was very popular for those wanting to achieve a more finished style than some of the popular grunge inspired hair.

Donna Mills was one of the stars of TV’s Knots Landing which ended its long run in 1993.   Her early 90s shaggy hairstyle was much admired for it teased sexy layers and heavily frosted edges.

Johnny Davis, deputy editor of Esquire and former editor of The Face told The Guardian “Trends have a tendency to move in 20-year cycles,” says “In retrospect, we’ve come to realise that the 1990s was a very fertile period.”

Return of Versace

It’s not really surprising that there’s a renewed interest in the 90s.  Recently there’s been a proliferation of grunge on the catwalk.  For spring/summer 2012, D&G sent its models down the catwalk in signature 90s printed handkerchiefs worn as dresses. Isabel Marant re-purposed 90s-style hi-top trainers alongside over-sized flannel shirts.  Archetypal 90s label Versace was back doing couture for the first time in 15 years. In an interview with BehindTheChair.com, in March of 2007, when asked about his favorite color he said “I love pink!  Who doesn’t?”   Does his love of pink extend to the hot new hair color trend sweeping the Red Carpets and fashion runways?

New Hair Inspiration

Probably.  Why?  Even though Ted doesn’t specialize in hair color (his partner Jason Backe is the color guru) he strives to keep hair “fresh each season.”

The famous hairstylist searches for new hair inspiration during his travels, by reading books and looking deep within himself to decide new directions to take his work. His favorite locations for gaining new inspiration includes The South of France, the Caribbean and New York City.

The Texas born hairstylist originally dreamed of growing up to become a Dallas Cowboy football player.  Life doesn’t always take us where we think we want to go and luckily for his many hair clients, Ted’s early life as part of a military family opened his eyes to beauty in many cultures.  After achieving great success in barber school, he knew that he wanted hair to be his life.

Emu Oil – Benefit Or Bane For Your Hair?

In the January 26, 1999 issue of Sun Magazine the amazing healing powers of emul oil was featured.  According to Sun,  Australian aborigines have relied on the large flightless emu for meat, feathers and medicine for thousands of years.

The oil extracted from emu fat is also treasured as a potent natural pain-killer.  It reportedly speeds relief to strained muscles, arthritic bones and damaged skin.

Hair and beauty experts have also raved about the hydrating and moisturizing effects of emu oil for dry, parched strands.  Animal rights activists have expressed outrage at the use of emu oil in hair and beauty products because the only way to harvest the oil is to kill the emu to extract the oil from their fat.

David Scott, president of Rate Enterprises, a company specializing in emu oil products said “we know that emu oil works well on just about anything you do with it.”

Modern Day Benefits Of Emu Oil

The Sun noted that Western science is only now catching up, using the powerful outback remedy effective against a host of modern-day ailments.  A study at Texas Tech University showed burns treated with emu oil healed 50 percent faster – and without any ugly scars.

Other experiments found aging skin increased in thickness by two to three times when treated with emu oil, eliminating wrinkles and age spots.  The itchy redness of psoriasis, eczema and other skin conditions will fade away thanks to the moisturizing oil. Zoe Saldana stepped out in style at the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards® (SAGs) with a tousled chignon which was fresh and modern.  It was styled using Wella Professionals products.

The beautiful brunette’s hair stylist, Mara Roszak, provided her secret hairstyling tips on how you can create Zoe’s star-worthy hair style at home.

Mara explained that she was inspired to create Zoe’s hairstylist based on her gown.  She said “Zoe’s dress was so inspiring. I wanted to create a “not too perfect” up-do by adding texture and movement to the hair, while keeping it modern and fresh.â€

Zoe dressed in a billowing white gown, with floral and sequin embellishments.  Many of the fashionistas were divided about her gown but Zoe definitely looked stunning in white.

The hairstyle Roszak crafted for Zoe was fun, fresh, flirty and showed off Zoe’s gorgeous skin tone, eyes and lips.

Emma Stone stepped out in style at the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards® (SAGs) with a flirty updo, styled using Wella Professionals!

The beautiful redhead’s long time hair stylist, Mara Roszak, provided her secret hairstyling tips on how you can create these star-worthy styles at home.

Mara explained “Emma’s dress was my inspiration. I wanted to create a smooth, polished up-do with a bit of a modern 50′s feel.â€

Emma Stone rocked a little black dress which was simple, but sexy.  She went quirky in a three-quarter-length strapless black dress with stunning lace details. “The Help” star played up the fun aspect of the Alexander McQueen design with platform shoe which showed off her sexy legs.

The hairstyle Roszak crafted was fun, fresh, flirty and showed off Emma’s gorgeous skin tone, eyes and lips by framing with a sleek side-swept panel of hair along one side.
