It’s a lot like the chicken and egg question.  What comes first, hair accessory trends or fine jewelry trends?

Even better what comes before either of those, fashion or world events?

After watching the hair accessory trending market for over 12 years I have to say that hair accessory trends often sync up with emerging fine jewelry trends which of course follow fashion which is often driven by world and economic trends.

Paul Frank Industries Inks Multi-year Licensing Deal With American Greetings

As reported today on Retailing.com by Allison Cerra, Paul Frank Industries (Julius, Sheree (my fav), Clancy, WorryBear and lots of cool products) announced a licensing agreement with American Greetings, giving the greeting card manufacturer access to the global fashion brand’s extensive design portfolio for use in new social expression products.

The new partnership will include a wide range of greeting cards, gift packaging, stickers and party goods featuring the modern design sensibility and whimsical humor of Paul Frank including Julius, the iconic monkey, and the brand’s 200+ colorful characters.

As reported today by WWD Media it looks like Madonna, who’s featured in Louis Vuitton’s spring-summer fashion campaign, will do an encore for the French luxury giant.

WWD Media said that “according to sources, the pop icon will reunite soon with photographer Steven Meisel for the shoot.

WWD Media also said “look out for another familiar and famous face in Balenciaga’s next campaign. Word has it actress Jennifer Connelly, who appeared in Balenciaga ads last spring, has been tapped again by designer Nicolas Ghesquière.”

Makes perfect sense to me.  Afterall, who has better face rec than Madonna?  And she has that new New York pad to pay for.  As far as Jennifer Connolly, I’m a little surprised because she doesn’t invoke instand images of glamour but she does have that perpetually waiflike body and silky shiny tresses.  If Balenciaga is renewing with Jen she probably did a great job for sales.

Meanwhile it will be interesting to see the Madonna ads for Vuitton.  Certainly she has the best photographer in the world to shot her.  It should be something to see.  I can’t wait.

When I first saw the dazzling Beyonce at the 2009 Golden Globes she was just one of a score of celebrities wearing eye popping gowns, rocking Red Carpet coiffures and sparkling in an array of gems.  I noticed Beyonce was wearing a stunning diamond necklace with her skin tight platinum white long gown and it was spectacularly beautiful.

So much of the buzz about Beyonce at the 2009 Golden Globes was about her gown.  Was it too tight?  Did it fit right or not?  Some fashionistas thought the gown did not flatter Beyonce’s famous curves.

Meanwhile I was still gasping over that gorgeous necklace.  Was it made or diamonds or Swarovski crystals?  It was all a mystery to me until I read the March 2009 issue of InStyle Magazine.

Thank heavens, they had the answers about Beyonce’s necklace.  Describing the songbird’s necklace as a “200-carat bib of diamonds”, the fashion magazine gave credit where credit was due. (more…)
