Topknots are actually one of the best go-to hairstyles for just about any imaginable hairstyle event from everyday hair wear to a formal wedding, Prom or party hair event.  The beauty of topknots is that they’re easy to create, look different on every size and shape of head and work with just about every type of hair and texture.

The different between topknots and regular buns, chignons, ballerina buns or twists?  Topknots are positioned at the top of the head and resemble a tight knot.

Ideally topknots are created on either naturally straight or temporarily straightened hair to achieve the sleek knot style.  Topknots can be glammed up by combing them with a myriad of headbands, tiaras or embellished bobby pins, bun covers, barrettes or jeweled combs.

Decorative Hair Comb Hairstyle How To

Decorative hair combs can be crafted out of a vast number of materials ranging from natural materials such as wood and stone to ivory and real tortoiseshell.  As concern for the animals was raised, some materials were outlawed.

When tortoiseshell became prohibited a faux tortoise shell was developed from cellulose and plastic.  Ivory is also forbidden to be used in combs or other types of hair adornments.

Olivia Wilde Undone Bun How To Hairstyle

Olivia Wilde rocked an Undone Bun when she attended the Los Angeles Confidential magazine cover party.  Her take on the undone bun was a relaxed take on a top knot.  Her hairstyle was low-key, but tousled elegance.

Olivia constantly thrills and surprises her fans with a stunning array of hairstyles which are edgy, classic and selected to showcase her glam fashions.

Instead of having her milk chocolate hair tousled and tangled on top of her head, she had the tousling cascading near her hairline and flowing back towards the crown of her head with the back flowing into a messy chignon bun positioned halfway between the nape of her beautiful neck and the crown of her head.

Olivia’s undone bun is intriguing because from different angles it looks finger tousled and tucked, but it also has the look of an inverted French Twist style bun.

Follow David’s steps below to  re-create Olivia Wilde’s hairstyle:

1.  David began by applying Couture Colour Pequi Oil Treatment through Olivia’s hair before drying it.
2.  For Olivia’s fringe area, he used a large paddle brush to create a sleek finish.
3.  After finishing her fringe area he separated hair into three sections – nape of neck and the sides – in order to have total control of the styling process.

There’s nothing more irritating than acquiring creases, wrinkles or indentation marks on your otherwise silky smooth strands.  How do these indentation marks and creases develop?  Actually it’s fairly straightforward.

Creases, indentations and wrinkles are more likely to develop in ponytails, updos and panels of hair when the tresses are wet or still damp.

If you clip, pin or apply an elastic to hair which is damp the crease or hair wrinkle will actually dry into the tresses.  Once an indentation has dried it can’t easily be removed by brushing or combing the strands.
