Paul Mitchell Editorial Director Lucie Doughty Creates Collection of Vintage Looks For Fashion Show Benefit for Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services

The Ritz-Carlton, Huntington Hotel & Spa hosted its annual fashion show fundraiser, benefiting Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services, a nonprofit education and treatment center for at-risk youth.

Paul Mitchell Editorial Director Lucie Doughty and a team of Paul Mitchell educators, and Future Professionals volunteered to create a collection of stellar hairstyles for the models that harkened back to images of Veronika Lake and Grace Kelly, always popular with celebrities on the Hollywood Runways.

The fashion show featured Los Angeles designers from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, representing Los Angeles’ diverse neighborhoods: Octavio Carlin, Sterling Capricio, Maggie Barry, Samora, and Yana K.

Celebrity stylist Robert Vetica is slated to style the gorgeous tresses of Rosario Dawson for the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards Ceremony this Sunday, January 25.

Robert Vetica is well-known for his gorgeous award show looks, including Salma Hayek and Kyra Sedgwick at this year’s 2009 Golden Globes as well as Marion Cotillard’s at last year’s 2008 Academy Awards, where she won the Best Actress Oscar for La Vie En Rose.

Robert has styled numerous leading ladies for the red carpet, including Penelope Cruz, Hilary Swank, Mariah Carey, Salma Hayek, Reneé Zellweger, Naomi Watts, Debra Messing and Angelina Jolie, among many others.

This is great news for Rosario who in truth has been looking fantastic over the past several months.  Her hair has been evolving and lately on the Red Carpet she has been rocking a series of half up-half down hairstyles as well as faux mid-length hairstyles.

Rosario’s career is also in high gear.  Having a fabulous hairdresser like Celebrity Haridresser Robert Vetica can only be great.

Twilight Star Christian Serrato has hit a sweet spot with her career. The talented young actress snagged a plum supporting role as Bella Swan’s friend - Angela - in the vampire movie which has won the hearts and minds of fans everywhere.

Appearing in Vampire has thrust Christian into the spotlight.

Recently (11-24-08) Christian appeared at the Los Angeles Premiere of “The Yellow Handkerchief” wearing her dark glossy strands in a messy side pony updo framed by a mid-crown three strand French braid.

The base of the braid was to one side with the rest of the thick braid woven across the top of Christian’s head which created a natural headband for the rest of her hair which was wrapped into a soft messy side pony updo.

Christian’s hairstyle combined two very popular styles for the present time. Not only are soft and messy hairstyles popular but accent braids have been spotted on everyone from The Hills star Lauren (LC) Conrad to Paris Hilton.

Christian looked very adorable with her braided updo which directed attention to her beautiful face and eyes.

Even better, the braided back straps of her gorgeous black gown continued the theme from her braided hairstyle.

Christian started as a Ford model and landed the role of “Suzie Crabgrass” on Nickelodeon’s “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide” then “Cow Belles”. More of Christian’s credits include “7th Heaven”, “Hannah Montana” and “Zoey 101″.

Life & Style Magazine - April 14th issue - interviewed Ashlee Simpson about her new album - Bittersweet World - told the weekly magazine “I never thought my life would end up taking the turn that it has. I always saw myself with blue hair in a band. So it’s great to be in the place that I am right now. Either way, I’ll be happy. I’ll probably still have blue hair one day.”

I for one have no doubt that will happen since the singer, actress and newly crowned t-shirt designer for wet seal has morphed from platinum blonde to deep burgandy red with a few stops in the chocolate, black and strawberry shades along the way. Going blue with her hair? Why not?

Ash is not only in the news for her new CD and T-shirt line, she is also fighting rumors that she and long term beau Pete Wentz are pregnant. The very private Ash doesn’t want to talk about it although she is willing to talk about her recent engagement to the Fall Out Boy band member which they announced on the Web.

Will Ashlee have blue hair for her nuptials to Pete? Unlikely.

On the most recent episode of MTV’s sizzling hot The Hills (Girls Night Out - 4/14/08,) Lauren Conrad (aka L.C.) showed up at People’s Revolution in LA with shorter hair and a hot hairline slanted braid.

L.C. had previously agreed to help her BFF Whitney with LA Fashion Week and looked very stylish even though she was dressed to work hard signing and lining up models for the show.

Of course Lauren looked very cute and stylish with her shorter bob inspired layered hairdo. As you would expect, the reality TV superstar completely changed up her new haircut with her front line braid, shattered ends and a “mini” hair bump for a softer look.

When created too tightly, hairline braids can look severe or harsh. Lauren’s braid which runs from side to side rather than from front to back is what is known as an “invisible” or “underhanded braid”.
