It has been almost eight years since I first met celebrity hairdresser Ken Paves in Dallas, Texas at the former 17 Spa & Salon (since sold).

Ken had flown to Dallas with Jessica Simpson to work on her hair for a photo shoot with Seventeen Magazine.  Besides the long photo shoot, Jessica was also performing for the grand opening of the 17 Spa and Salon.

The blonde star took time to hang out with her fans, sign autographs and visit with some of the members of the Dallas police force.  Ken was there to make sure Jessica’s hair always looked spectacular and he did not disappoint.  The man is an amazing hairdresser which explains his rise to the top in Hollywood and why he is so sought after.

Yesterday I caught up with Ken for a brief phone chat and he filled me in on his recent work in Japan with Jennifer Lopez and various charity projects he is spearheading with his long time client Eva Longoria. (more…)

Although this story really doesn’t have anything to do with celebrities, hair, beauty or business, it is about Texas and a story I have taken an special interest in.

The reasons?  The deceased young man in this story received what became fatal injuiries on 6th Street in Austin and Dallas is just up the road from that party town.  I have been to Austin on numerous occasions and my own deceased husband initially hoped to live in Austin before we moved to Dallas.  I have very fond feelings to Austin and often pay close attention to news from there.

Melissa Rycroft who was first picked by Jason Mesnick on The Bachelor and then was ultimately dumped for Molly is a gorgeous 25 year old 5′4″ brunette who was born in the Dallas, Texas area under the sign of Pisces.  She still currently lives in Dallas and works for a wine distribution company although in the past she has worked as a land and marketing co-ordinator.

When asked by the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader (DCC) organization what her career goals were she said “she was not quite sure yet, but she was not a 9-5 desk-job kind of girl!”  She did list her Lifetime Goal as “just to be happy, keep smiling and have no regrets about any of the decisions I’ve made.”

As far as pets go she listed a chihuahua named Riley.  As far as hobbies, she listed shopping, dancing and working out.  Her favorite TV shows included Nip/Tuck and Punky Brewster.  Her favorite actor and actress was Johnny Depp and Halle Berry.

Melissa favorite song? “Don’t want to miss a thing” by Aerosmith.  Other Melissa favs?  The color blue, sushi, cheese pizza and any type of music she can dance to.  She loves sports, Burberry and Miss Dior Cherie fragrance and New York City.

When asked her most memorable moment as a DCC she listed the beginning of the game when the team runs through the giant football helmet during the player introductions.  She loved the energy during pre-game and loved dancing and the sea of Cowboys walking down the tunnel.

When asked if she could be anyone in the whole world she would be herself because she said “I’m pretty proud of who I’ve become.  Her biggest mistake?  Being too hard on herself.

She does believe her best asset is her smile which she “trys to always keep” on.

Her ideal vacation? Anywhere tropical such as a beach, a cruise.  She said she is “definitely a beach girl.”  If Melissa could change anything about herself it would be to “not sweat the small stuff”.  She confessed she was in the process of reading self-help books.

Here’s hoping that Melissa is not sweating the bad stuff that has happened to her on The Bachelor with Jason and Molly.  Indeed, she has a gorgeous smile and comes across as a very sweet and loving person.  Here’s hoping Melissa, wherever you are, has great things come her way.

Afterall, she came out of The Final Rose Ceremony smelling like a true rose.

After Jason told Molly during After The Final Rose that in essence he was dumping her because he still had feelings for Molly she called him a “Bastard”.  It was not cut by The Bachelor producers.

She also told Jason never to contact her again, not to call or to text.  She made it clear she was completely finished with him and very angry.  Jason walked Melissa to the end of the stage but not out to her waiting limo.  According to Jason on Twitter, the producers would not let him walk her out to the limo.

Melissa, who looked absolutely gorgeous was interviewed in the limo after it pulled away from the studios.  She was crying and seemed shellshocked.  It was no surprise she called Jason a “bastard”.  Its surprising she didn’t call him other names but she is very polite and sweet and it would have been a shock.

Melissa said “it’s just an awful feeling to give your heart to someone you trust and they just throw it away.”  Fighting through tears the lovely Bachelorette from Texas said “he didn’t want to fight for our relationship, he didn’t want to try.”  She said he said instead he wanted to go and explore his feelings with Molly.  Sniffling she said “what girls wants to hear that?”   She pointed out “nobody wants to hear I’m not going to try.”

Explaining herself further she said “I’m not angry, I’m hurt”.  She said “I put up that wall of pretending how angry I am so he can’t see how much he really hurt me.”  Melissa said “short term I gave him everything” and “I was dropped on my butt.”

Pointing out “it’s hard to see the silver lining when you are in this situation” she explained that she hopes to learn and grow from this experience and not to play the “pity card”.

The lovely lady from Dallas, Texas said when asked what she was going to do next “I’m going to go home and live my life.”

I used to think this old adage, made popular by the famous show Cheers, was a lovely state of being - one I have experienced many times over. It was always quite like the show itself - walking into my favorite little bar, Rip Rocks, being greeted by name by everyone from the door man, to the patrons, to the bartender. By the time I had made my way to the back, they’d have my signature drink waiting - margarita on the rocks with salt, two olives, two cherries, and a twist of lime. My favorite dart board would always be waiting and one of my best friends would happen to walk in soon after I did.

Every Cheers experience I had ever had - was just as happy, joyful, and full of laughs as the show itself…until just recently…when it turned into one of those famous Snickers commercials…Wanna get away?
