Pocket Informant 1.0 hits the App Store!
Staying up past my bedtime occasionally has its benefits…I was about to go to sleep when I received an email from WebIS that my long-awaited holy grail calendar and to-do app, Pocket Informant, had finally been accepted by Apple and released to the App Store. Thank you, three hour nap! I am so happy that I was awake. I have been waiting for this app since I got my iPhone 3G at the end of August. Needless to say, I …
Would you take your tech…to the grave?
I was reading an article today about a rising trend–people getting buried with their favorite technology. Apparently people love their geeky gear SO much they don’t want to part with it once they shuffle off this mortal coil. From the article: “It seems that everyone under 40 who dies takes their cell phone with them,†says Noelle Potvin, family service counselor for Hollywood Forever, a funeral home and cemetery in Hollywood, Calif. “It’s a trend with BlackBerrys, too. We even …
The iPhone 3G is unlocked!
We all knew it was just a matter of time…the hackmasters behind the iPhone Dev Team have been hard at work since the day the iPhone 3G was released to unshackle it from the carrier constraints of AT&T. Now it looks like a successful hack is finally complete, with a promise of a free unlocking program available to the masses by December 31. Apparently the hack will only work on jailbroken phones with firmware 2.11 and below. Just a word …
All I want for Christmas (or my birthday) is Pocket Informant…
One of the apps I’ve been waiting for (not so patiently) is Pocket Informant for iPhone. I’m a long-time PI fan from my days of using it on Windows Mobile, and I absolutely cannot wait to have it on my iPhone. The problem is, I’m incredibly impatient. I’m not a huge fan of the built-in iPhone calendar–it is functional, and I have it syncing with my Google Calendar via NuevaSync, but otherwise it’s nothing to write home about. I’m used …

Copy and paste on the iPhone with pastebud
A long-standing complaint from the iPhone community at large has been the lack of copy and paste functionality. This isn’t something I run into needing too often, but I agree that it’s a super basic feature that should have been there from the start. There have been a few attempts at a proof of concept so far; the popular Notes replacement app MagicPad features copying and pasting between notes, but not between MagicPad and any other app on the iPhone. …
Review: Power Support AirJacket for iPhone 3G
The night we bought our iPhones, it was too late to go anywhere else in the mall and get cases for them. I was pretty nervous about carrying around my naked iPhone even until the next morning. I really like keeping my phone or my iPod in a case to make sure that it suffers the least amount of damage possible from daily use, keys in my purse or pocket, or (heaven forbid) even dropping it on the very rare …

iPhone Wrap-Up: Week One with the Preciousss
So, the 31 iPhone posts didn’t exactly pan out as planned. My husband and I had some real life stuff crop up that was just more important than the Internet, and I’ve been on a big project at work that has required a lot of time dedicated to it. But despite the lack of posting, the countdown to iPhone was still going on. We sent each other emails throughout the month of August…”25 days until iPhone!” “Two weeks until we …

31 Days to 3G iPhone – Day 31: A Case, Of Course!
After a year of waiting, tech jealousy, back and forth decisions, surreptitious fondling of floor models, and near theft of friend’s phones, my husband and I are finally taking the plunge and moving over to AT&T when our T-Mobile contract is up on August 31. Despite recent reports of cracks in the plastic, we each plan on getting a white 16GB iPhone 3G. To celebrate our upcoming iPhone Liberation Day, I will be making an iPhone-related post each day. After …

Daily Driver Review: T-Mobile Wing
My beloved (but sometimes also hated) i-mate JAQ3 must have heard through the grapevine that it’s getting replaced with an iPhone, because last week it decided to give up the ghost completely. The poor thing has given me a good year and a half of hard use, so I really can’t blame it for wanting to go toe up. I was bemoaning its loss and trying to figure out what to do in the meantime, since my husband is using …
My Must-Install iPhone Apps
After a long, hard look at a number of VERY expensive Windows Mobile phones, and waiting with bated breath for the announcement of the iPhone 3G, my husband and I have finally made the decision to move to AT&T and get a couple of white 16GB iPhones. The one catch is that we have to wait until the end of August for our contract with T-Mobile to expire. I’ve been very happy with my cellular service on the T-Mobile network, …
