So here I am at the Anaheim, CA Convention Center attending the 2007 CAR REALTOR® Expo Convention. Today is known as Tech Tuesday where they spend all of today geared toward conversations for the more tech savvy or inspiring tech savvy individuals. So my schedule looked like this today:
Registration at 8:30AM 9am-10am: 411 on Blogging: Turning Online Leads Into Profit with Kevin Boer, Butch Grimes, Pat Kitano, and one other lady that I cant remember her name (But I have her photo). In all honesty, this didn’t really meet any expectations of what I thought it was going to be. The event didn’t have very good flow. Butch Grimes, and Kevin Boer both were great, but the other two didn’t really offer anything insightful.
You know the old saying “Its not what you know, its who you know.” Well, Butch Grimes took it one step further: “Its not what you know, its not even who you know… Its who knows YOU!” Think about that. This statement is very true. How do people remember you? How do you get people to remember you? Did you make that lasting impression, and was it good? I really like how he took that statement and expanded on it. People are lazy. They don’t want to read. Podcasts are getting so much more popular because its easier to capture an audience with audio and video. People are lazy when it comes to reading, but they will listen and watch. So keep that in mind. So a question was brought up, how do you know what to write about? People want to read things that will educate them, inform, and current news for a few examples.
10am-11:30am: Tech Tuesday General Session: REALTOR® 2.0: The next big thing.
I sat in this class really looking forward to hearing what these people said. About 20 minutes into the session, I got a text saying my package that I was waiting for arrived. So I left to get my new LCD screen for my laptop.
12pm-1:30pm: Tech Tuesday Luncheon: The Medici Effect: Ground-breaking Innovation at the Intersection of Disciplines, Cultures, and Technology. Featuring Frans Johansson.
This was a great session. It was an inspirational session on how to think outside the box and take several things and apply them together to be different. For example: termites and architecture… What do they have in common? Well, nothing really. But if you examine how termites build their colony’s you can learn something about it and apply it to our (human) world. Think about a building with no air conditioning. Termite mounds don’t have AC either, surprise! But they do maintain a constant temperature in their colonies. So we learn how they do that, and apply it to our buildings. Thats a perfect example of what Frans was talking about.
2pm-3pm: Website Transformation: Satisfying the Demands of Today’s Internet Consumer. 3pm-4pm: SEM (Search Engine Marketing)And thats all for now. Now I’m headed to the EXPO… I’m gonna go get me some Pens.
