Talk About Pissing Up an Ego!
1) St Valentine’s Day Massacre 1929
Have you ever heard of this story? The St. Valentine’s Day massacre – the most spectacular gangland carnage in mob history. Al Capone had arranged for Chicago mobster George “Bugs†Moran and most of his North Side Gang to be eliminated on February 14, 1929. The plan, probably devised by Capone’s henchman “Machine Gun†Jack McGurn, was simple and deviously clever, but Capone’s primary target escaped. Everyone else didn’t! I’m sure you will never look at Valentine’s Day the same way again. Happy Valentine’s Day!
I’m one of the “lucky†ones to have visited Alcatraz in 2000 December. I sat in the dark cell where Al Capone was hauled up for assaulting some prison guards. Trust me, it’s not something you would enjoy (I mean the dark cell part lah, you Bentong Kali you…). The prisoners in the dark cell passed their time casting off coins (or anything else) in the darkness and then go scour for it. That’s how they spend their time, not even recognizing whether it’s day or night. This torrid experience is almost sure to leave you fallaciously and mentally ill.
2) Most Livable Countries & Most Corrupt Countries of 2005
Someone told me that Malaysia is one of the 10 most most risk-free countries to live in the world. So, curiosity got the better of me, I did some empirical research and discovered this ranking list by the UN, based on criterias like life expectancy, adult literacy, school enrollment, educational attainment, and adjusted real income.
LIVABLE: 1. Norway, 2. Iceland, 3. Australia, 4. Luxembourg, 5. Canada
CORRUPT: 1. Bangladesh, 2. Chad, 3. Haiti, 4. Myanmar, 5. Turkmenistan
Malaysia is not in the top 10, but I’m pretty sure it’s number 11.So, Scandinavia anyone?
3) Steven Spielberg’s MUNICH (starring Eric Bana)
I’m diffident about this movie reaching our shores without the Government ostracizing it or worst, experience heavy censorship. No harm in keeping fingers crossed. Here’s a snippet of history:
“On the morning of September 5, with six days left in the Games, the worst tragedy in Olympic history hit. Eight Arab terrorists stormed into the Olympic village and raided the apartment building that housed the Israeli contingent. Two Israeli athletes were killed and nine more were seized as hostages. They demanded the release of over 200 Palestinians serving time in Israeli jails, along with two renowned German terrorists.
After a day of unsuccessful negotiations, the terrorists collected the hostages and headed for the military airport in Munich for a flight back to the Middle East. At the airport, German sharpshooters opened fire, killing three of the Palestinians. A horrifying gun battle ensued, claiming the lives of all nine of the hostages, along with one policeman and two terrorists. â€
4) Feeling Nostalgically 80s?
I’ve scrupulously been tuning in to www.club977.com on Fridays, a dedicated 80s Retro, Pop & Rock, that will surely bring back a smile or two. The entire broadcast operation and corporate headquarters is based in Minnesota. RECOMMENDED LINK!
5) Caffeine
I can count the number of times I had coffee and tea in the last 6 years with my hands. Used to be addicted to coffee, especially when dipping the Roti Bengali in it. That was yummy to the tummy! Anyway, caffeine is useful as a cardiac stimulant and also as a mild diuretic (it increases urine production).
Recreationally, it is used to provide a “boost of energy†or a feeling of heightened alertness. Caffeine is an addictive drug. Among its many actions, it operates using the same mechanisms that amphetamines, cocaine, and heroin use to stimulate the brain. On a spectrum, caffeine’s effects are more mild than amphetamines, cocaine and heroin, but it is manipulating the same channels, and that is one of the things that gives caffeine its addictive qualities. If you feel like you cannot function without it and must consume it every day, then you are addicted to caffeine. You drug addict!!
Have a Bouncin’ Weekend!
