I read an enkindling article about Lent earlier in the week. It never traversed my mind about the misreckoning of “40 days†beginning Ash Wednesday.
Lent is a period of spiritual preparation for Easter. It starts 40 days before Easter Sunday, on Ash Wednesday and ends with the celebration of Easter. Sundays in this period are not counted among the days of Lent. Lent is a season of observation that is accentuated by abstinence break on Sundays. I on the other hand refrained throughout whole period including Sundays (approx 46 days).
