This date, Thursday 29th June 2006, 9:10pm will go down in history as the return of SUPERMAN (no, it’s not an Indon movie about a kampong boy going to the city!) to the big screens. I watched it at the Midvalley Megamall and passably enjoyed the 2.5 hour movie. I left the cinema feeling empty inside, that I have lost something. I couldn’t rate the movie because I didn’t knew whether I liked it or hated it.ÂÂ

That Brian Singer is a useless director and screenwriter! When I noticed these similarities of the first 2 X-Men, then I realized that Singer was just using the X-Men series as practice for the movie he really wanted to do. Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) acted like Lana Lang, fainthearted and gimpy. Lois Lane dazzled by love. WTF?
Brian Singer gambled by concentering on SUPERMAN and Lois Lane, at times were like Titanic (”You Jump I Jump”). The scripts were bromidic. I guess it’ll take sometime for all of us to acclimatize to Brandon Routh. As I said, he did alright as SUPERMAN, just above average, can be better. Needs to be more buff.
The highlights to me was the opening credits and the ending of the movie. It was precisely imitated in the same vein as the 1978’s SUPERMAN. Nice touch indeed! John Williams’ gargantuan music was used (thank God!), but a little mellowed down.
It’ll take time for Superman fans to get accustomed to these bunch of actors. Can someone please get RICHARD DONNER to direct the next instalment? Let Brian Singer go fuck up his X-Men movies for all I care!
I’m looking forward to the next Superman with optimism. I hope we will remember the next one as SUPERMAN AGAIN! and not SUPERMAN AGAIN?. Please don’t let Christopher Reeve down!
All in all, the return my favorite superhero wasn’t as spectacular as I thought it would be. I would’ve given it a 7.5/10 but I can’t help to compare it with the first 2 SUPERMAN flicks, hence the rating: 6/10

Hey man…good review. Sad though Brian Singer didnt live up to expectation.
This review is good for me, so that I don’t have too high expectation.
Dun like the “potong steam” feeling when watching overrated movies.

Sounds a bit anti-climatic, Daniel. I think the first 2 Superman movies were among the first I saw in the cinema (besides ROTJ). Not a gila fan, but I’m still looking forward to it.
Enjoy tonights matches. And tomorrows. Say a prayer for Portugal!
P.s. WHERE ARE THE CHICK PICS WE’VE BECOME USED TO!
