My thoughts on BLOOD DIAMOND? A super movie. Though I clambered at first to stay awake, not because of the movie, but because I was fatigued. We watched the 12am show at 1U.
This movie is set during the civil war in Sierra Leone. Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio), a South African soldier of fortune (Zimbabwe) and Solomon Vandy, venture on a dangerous trip through insurgent territory in search for the exceptional rough stone hidden by Solomon Vandy earlier while he was forced to work in the diamond fields. The ever yummy Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an American journalist helps them in their quest for the diamond.
DiCaprio’s getting better with his acting. After Titanic, he has been selecting some really good roles. I enjoyed watching The Beach, Gangs of New York, Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator and the recent, The Departed. I have added this to my list of good DiCaprio flicks. Well done Leo!
He has 3 upcoming films in the next year or so. Blink – A series of short stories about how people make snap judgements in different situations that come up in life. Robert Ludlum’s The Chancellor Manuscript – involving power brokers and a blackmailed plot targeted to alter U.S. policy. And Martin Scorcese’s The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt – the 26th president of the USA. (information extracted from IMDB)
7.5/10

Watched Blood Diamond last night. I was more impressed with the movie overall than with Loe’s action, which frankly wasn’t quite bad after all (he’s one my my least favourite actors).
My wife bugged me to find out if the diamond on her engagement ring is “conflict free”. Check the cert (which we kept) – whew!

I haven’t watched the movie yet but I am going to assume it’s going to be good because Leonardo has an uncanny sense to choose good movies. Despite how he may seem. Well, he sure is making better choices than Ben Affleck.
Will make a more detailed comment after I have watched the movie.
Hope your weekend was fab…*hugs*

Ben Affleck sucks!!!…. Leonardo Sucks!!! but i agree with Rudy he has been chosing his roles well…..

Keropok Well, Leo’s ain’t my favorite actor but I think you have to give credit when credit’s due.
Rudy Dicaprio’s better than Affleck will ever be. I also rate Leo higher than Matt Damon as well.
Gerald I thought the same too about Dicaprio shortly after Titanic, but he hasn’t put a foot wrong with his selections, and the fact that Spielberg and Scorsese casts him only proves his worth. He will get better with age.

I have never forgiven diCrappio for totally destroying The Beach. It was the best book ever!
January 29th, 2007 at 11:06am
I still prefer him in Titanic hahahaha
Btw, you should catch Apocalypto. Very engaging movie.
January 29th, 2007 at 11:11am
agree Leo was pretty good in Departed
January 29th, 2007 at 11:21am
Izad I didn’t read the book, but I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed THE BEACH.
Sha I heard so much about Apocalypto, my ex-gf was raving about it to me a couple of weeks ago. I’ll watch it soon.
Lucifer Having watched THE DEPARTED again, I thought both Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio were brilliant. Matt Damon was kind of a hogwash. LOL!

In the West, the call it bling bling. Here (Africa) they call it bling bang.
January 29th, 2007 at 1:00pm
I’m planning to watch this movie hopefully this week.
Yes his acting has improved alot. I enjoyed all his ‘after Titanic’ flicks thoroughly. Getting handsome the macho kind of way too. Hehe

endroo G Bling bang tuak goodness!
Che-Cheh Go watch the flick!
DiCaprio’s getting better all the time…

Havent watched the movie and will definitely do when it comes to HBO (!). Not a fan of Leo but only because his look is too boyish – if he has a rough manly face, I’m sure I would feel differently. I’m looking forward to enjoying him and his work as he gets older and his face gets more mature, haha! And agree that Ben Affleck is only popular because of his supposed good looks – although not to me.
January 29th, 2007 at 1:27pm
He has matured like old wine.. the older he gets, the better he has become.
January 29th, 2007 at 4:58pm
Well I guess I shouldn’t blame everything on him for The Beach (bloody screenwriters), but the book really is one of the best books EVAH (btw, they totally erased one vital character from the book to fit the screenplay $#%@^%@#$%^)
Oh yeah.. Apocalypto is a great movie! And while you’re at it, download Pan’s Labyrinth as well.
January 29th, 2007 at 9:21pm
Jewelle Ben Affleck’s terribly overrated.
Jemima Indeed.
Izad Well, maybe if I read the book, I would’ve got the same impression.
10-4 on Apocalypto!
January 29th, 2007 at 11:27pm
I agree with Jems. Over the years, LeoDiCap actually have become into a much more matured actor. Titanic was just medicore but it helped him to be really famous though. Many didn’t know that he was a child actor until that sinking ship movie came along.
btw, it’s not funny to make fun of my hair!

I thought the movie was pretty good. Two thumbs up to Leonardo DiCaprio & Djimon Hounsou.
As for Jennifer Connelly, she didn’t really have alot of scenes did she?
I thought Leo had a weird strong Aussie accent; considering he was suppose to be South African. One scene (more or less the whole movie) where he was trying to ’sound’ African didn’t quite work it with me.
