It’s pretty simple really. Just place the egg into a bowl of water and just observe. If the egg’s fresh, it will sink to the bottom and lie on its side. If it’s slightly older, then it will still lie at the bottom but it might move up and down slightly.

If it balances itself on the smaller end, with the large on top, it’s probably old already. The worst, if it float on the surface of the water – that means it has gone bad.
