I guess that most of you know about the Government’s attempt to allow that road tax and insurance be renewed online. As usual, there were some who opposed to it, I can’t remember the gist of it, but I thought they are stupid not to embrace the idea – traffic offenders ka? Have you seen the website – MyEG? http://www.myeg.com.my/

Too bad I can’t try it out as I only just renewed by roadtax in early April. The good thing is, you don’t need to sign up to renew your roadtax. Think about it, no longer waiting in queue at JPJ or going to the bank to renew your road tax and insurance. It’s about time too! Sorry, it’s only for private vehicles. Commercial vehicles would still need to go to JPJ, I’m guessing to ensure that the yearly vehicle inspection is done.

Of course, you need your insurance cover note number first, then proceed to renew your road tax. You can either pay via Credit Card or bank debit. You could also check out your trafic summons (police and JPJ), DBKL or whether your officialy bankrupt.

Now, the flaw of this system is, if you haven’t paid your summonses, you will not be able to renew your road tax and insurance. So, unless this is strictly practised by banks, my guess is that traffic offenders will not use this website.

You can collect your road tax at their service centres or simply have it sent to you within 5 working days, for RM6 (Klang Valley). For the rest of Malaysia, who cares? :-P

There’s a convenience fee of RM2.75 – still cheaper than driving over and wasting time. For more info, call 03-7801 8888.
