It is official. Lara Croft does not intimidate the betta fish.
Nervous Energy
I’ll start off by sharing my mini adventure and yet another example of why it’s good to be a geek:
Last night after I took a shower I thought I’d sit on my patio and watch the sun set. There was a little girl and boy playing soccer and it felt like a nice fairwell to summer. Granted they initially annoyed me as the ball kept hitting my furniture and I was on the verge of snarling at them, but they were laughing and it brought back memories of what it was like to be a kid.
As soon as I made my way outside, I heard the dreaded sounded of the metal security bar falling into place thus locking me out!
“Noooooooo!” All of a sudden the what ifs started to go through my head and I needed to explore my options. If I wasn’t able to break in, then no option would save me from humiliation of being in my pajama’s with wet hair and raccoon eyes.
The door opened just wide enough for me to reach my arm through, however the latch was two arm lengths away. WHY CAN’T I BE TALLER??? Or at least have freakishly long arms…
Jonathon was absorbed in a television show, and it didn’t matter anyway as his chair was currently charging so he wouldn’t have been able to make it over to help- not to mention there is furniture blocking access to the metal bar. And the funny thing is earlier in the evening I had decided to rearrange things again as I thought it’d look nice to have my end table in that particular spot. It did look nice. Nice and taunting!
Think think think. A couple of years ago, for extra security measures I took a tripod apart and made an adjustable bar to be placed as a wedge in the sliding glass door. This of course was also two arm lengths away, but at least it was on the floor. I had a towel wrapped around head (because as I mentioned, I was fresh out of the shower). I wondered if I could use that.
I took my towel and hoped I could some how nab the tripod leg and bring it to me. Unfortunately with my angle I was having no success.
While looking around for branches that would be long enough, I noticed my garden lights and an idea popped in my head! I quickly took the lights off the plastic stakes and created a pole long enough to reach the tripod leg. It worked! I took the tripod leg as it was of a heavier material and lifted the latch up FINALLY getting back into my apartment just in time for the season premieres to start.
——Topic Change——
This weekend I’m going to try to do quite a bit of writing, maybe some Lara Adventures. I have a book to read for review (Lego Mindstorm), a video game to play/review and attempts at not being a worry wart for a friend who is going through a lot right now and needs a solid support system. Being as I still haven’t joined the league of cell phone users (well I did for a short while and tossed it) I need to remain close to home so I can be near the phone. Hence the need for massive mental activities.
SO- my readers can expect more videos (and don’t worry I have a long time British friend coming to visit next weekend who could probably assist with my accent), more pictures as I’ve just installed my software for my new digi cam… and more writing!
Real writing… not this lame tepid writing that I’m doing whilst doing a million other things and bouncing back and forth between screens as I haven’t had my necessary amount of coffee yet.
 ——Another Change in Topic——
My boss just sent a picture of her engagement ring (WOO HOO CONGRATS!) and OMG!! Aside from being happy for her as her fiance is a great guy, they get along wonderfully and it’s a continuous romance, partnership, friendship- the ring is freaking AWESOME! It’s so glittery and big and sparkles so much that she could land planes with it!
I spent a good five minutes trying to make an optical illusion by placing my own fingers in front of the screen some how making it look like I was wearing it- well that didn’t work. Finally I just bent my ring finger down and voila! It worked. Now to figure out how to make it jump from the computer and into my grasp. Where are those 3D printers when you need one???
 ——More Topic Changes——
It’s 9:25am right now and my friend on EST should be at the place which will do the thing to find out the stuff and possibly do other stuff and not happy stuff but it could also show no stuff any more and that would be awesome but what if the stuff is there? And life changes after today if it is.
I’m breathing… sending positive energy, holding my good luck necklace which I should have mailed… trying not to worry… breathing… GAH!
Monday Premiere Night
How I Met Your Mother: Decent season opening and I completely love the new Slap Countdown Site. Genius. Pure genius. Mandy Moore did an okay job as a wild tart that scars Ted for life. Barney… yeah, I’d do him.
Big Bang: Witty, enjoyable geek fest in its purest form. Hollywood writers couldn’t guess their way into this level of geekness- these boys did their research ![]()
Chuck: These writers didn’t do their research. It was likable, but I felt it could a have been any one any where- Joe Shmoe winds up reading the wrong e-mail and having his life changed. I wasn’t as impressed as I was hoping to be. I too will tune in next week to see if it truly has potential. At this point I’m bored.

Great Weekend and Future Ideas
Saturday morning on I was a mad hunt trying to find an action figure with a tiny trench coat. WHY? You’ll find out… eventually (anyone know how to make tiny clothes?) The hunted spanned hours through the afternoon as well and my visit to Toys R Us prompted me to write an article on a HUGE issue I came across (keep reading arsgeek.com- I’m unsure WHEN I’ll write it as it began a researching FRENZY and I need more time).
When I got home YAY! There was a package waiting for me in the mailbox from my friend Ben. It was a geek party in a box that was totally created for this girl geek. An awesome sounding sci-fi book “World of Z”, a tested and extremely cool digi cam that makes me excited to go forward with the project centered around the first paragraph (no worries about the project needing to go on hiatus), a couple of New England hand picked worry rocks, a t-shirt that makes me a collectible and a silly magnet that shows ROCK DOES NOT BEAT ALL.
Aside from that, it was a treasure trove in finding letters explaining each item in a funny and witty way.
So with reading, playing with my new camera, surrounded by my beautiful birthday foliage, and viewing a couple decent films, along with research (of the article and mini-trench coats- I love doing research), it’s a decent weekend. ![]()
SO- now that we have the equipment to capture our Comic-Con adventure, and knowing it IS a reality and just feeling so sappily touched by everything that’s been going on. Friendships, dreams, omg it IS the best birthday EVER!

You Like Me, You Really Like Me
Thursday was the anniversary of my birth. The day I like to call “Cheating death once more!”
Typically I’m touched if anyone remembers or is actually happy I was born, much like I’m very thankful when the anniversary of a friend or family member’s annual birth celebration comes up- including myself. This year I found myself smiling… A LOT due to all the birthday wishes from Jonathon, Ben (at AG), my sister, my mother, Ashley and all my new friends, including a couple old ones
Awwww!!!! I was a little verklempt.
At work I was dealing with annoyances when I was called to the front desk as apparently there was an irate person who wanted to speak to me. I was confused because 1. Why weren’t they transferred to me. 2. I don’t handle those types of calls, but apparently no one was around. Well I get up there and I was greeted with a Happy Birthday! My sister had sent me flowers! Right after I was called back up there as my parents sent me a bouquet as well
(due to the note attached, I gathered it was my dad who ordered it) “Happy your day Dawn! We’ll be down to buy you dinner in the next couple of weeks. Mom and Dad”
I went home and had a nice visit with Ash and Ryan for a couple hours of Guitar Hero, video game and film conversation- then I spent the rest of the evening watching Death Proof.
NOW- I’m waiting on the gift that Ben is sending! YAY presents!
So it was a warm and cozy day filled with contact from people I care about and who care about me and gifts!

Jonathon!

While testing out my new camcorder after work, I decided to do a mini interview with Jonathon.
There really hasn’t been any excitement tonight thus so far. A guy came to my door selling local newspaper subscriptions. I told him I’d rather not due to shotty journalism. I did however, write out a check as the money went towards winning a scholarship and told him to give the subscription to someone who didn’t mind horrible writing.
May the paper go towards lining a decent bird cage.

Creepy Scary Stalking Spider
After spending $128.00 at Walgreen’s today (I swear I just went in to pick up Jonathon’s prescription… and then I saw the mineral make-up, a table top fountain, water paint, cleaning items, etc.), I came home and opened up my patio door to find the Spider from HELL!!! I thought I’d share before I go back to playing games with the boy.
