I think it depends on how much per­sonal you want the blog to be. While mine is “per­sonal†per se, it’s not exactly 100% per­sonal. I actu­ally am care­ful about what I post on there com­pared to my friends-locked LJ because of my job and its unique environment …

Not to men­tion my dad reads my blog, so I am def­i­nitely not going to post up like my sex life or some­thing on there LOL.

I think this is very sub­jec­tive. I per­sonal fol­low the “If you wouldn’t say it in a crowded street, Don’t say it on the net†phi­los­o­phy. I will write about my life but I tend to omit names and places.

I have seen them used to great effect in a more inti­mate way how­ever. My cousin (And she won’t mind me telling you this) blogged con­stantly through­out the preg­nancy, learn­ing of the com­pli­ca­tions and death of her daugh­ter, aged 30 hours.

She was very open and drew a lot of com­fort from peo­ple com­ments all the way through. It also served a more prac­ti­cal pur­pose see­ing as she lives in Ams­ter­dam and her fam­ily are here in Eng­land. She, like you, how­ever always used nick­names just in case.

Ulti­mately what you post on your blog is up to you. There is no fixed for­mat for one (Although orig­i­nally they where never intended to be per­sonal diary they are now). It’s a case of do what­ever you get the most out of.

per­sonal blogs are all i read! i love to get a glimpse into some­one else’s life and its also what got me inter­ested in blog­ging in the first place. i can under­stand not want­ing to reveal impor­tant details about where you live or your name but oth­er­wise i say blog what you want to!

I may be inclined to say yes. I don’t really want peo­ple in my offline life vis­it­ing my blog. Some know I have one, but that’s my place to talk about my life, the peo­ple in it, etc etc. Some things are very per­sonal to me, and it’s nice to be able to talk and debate with myself and oth­ers, that are a unbi­ased 3rd party.

It really depends on how you write. Some peo­ple even have a few dif­fer­ent blogs, one is more per­sonal and pri­vate and the other is more gen­eral. Either way I still love hav­ing my blog.
