St. Arnold’s Army: Newsletter
August 27, 2007 by CarpetGuy · Comments Off
Dear St. Arnold’s Army:
Oh, we have a busy month ahead of us! So let’s proceed with the
meeting:
Here are the topics to be discussed:
Pub Crawl this Friday, August 31
Beer & Cheese Tasting on Saturday, September 8 at the Tasting Room
Texans Game outing Sunday, September 23
Now hiring for an additional brewing/kegging position
OKTOBERFEST PUB CRAWL THIS FRIDAY (8/31) IN SHEPHERD PLAZA AREA
To celebrate and sweat the rolling out of Oktoberfest, we will be
roaming the greater Shepherd Plaza area this Friday evening seeking
establishments that might be serving this fine beverage. Again we will be
using the open house method with the communal finish that has proved so
successful. And the prize will be the popular hop-frosted pub crawl pint
glass with little footprints wrapping their way around the glass.
Here’s how it works:
We will be signing tickets at all four of the first four stops for
three hours (except one that we’ll only be at for two hours) so people can
split up between the establishments. You will get your ticket at
whichever stop you decide to visit first. But, VERY IMPORTANT, we will only
be handing out the tickets between 6 PM and 7 PM (or very shortly
thereafter). Thus, you still need to start between 6 and 7. Then, at 9
PM, everybody will gather at one final stop and that is where we will
award the glasses. The prize for making all four stops will be the Pub
Crawl pint glass. We will have a large but limited supply. And as
always, designated drivers are both eligible for the award and encouraged to
attend! So here is the layout. As always, we can’t tell you exactly
where we will be, but here are some general directions:
6 PM till 8 PM:
We will look for one on Norfolk between Kirby and Greenbriar (food
available).
6 PM till 9 PM:
We will look for two around Portsmouth and Sandman in the middle of the
Shepherd Plaza area (food available at one of them).
We will look for another along Greenbriar between Norfolk and SW
Freeway.
At 9:00 we will go to the corner of Portsmouth and Morningside to
finish the crawl. There may even be two places very close to each other.
One of the establishments may have food.
Remember that cash is helpful, be kind to your waitstaff, and always,
always appear in public enjoying a Saint Arnold. We hold those that
arrange for transportation to and from or use designated drivers in the
highest regard!
SAINT ARNOLD & CHEESE PAIRING AT THE TASTING ROOM ON SATURDAY, SEPT 8
When enjoying some good food, what adult beverage is best to pair with
it? St. Arnold, of course! We hope to be doing many beer & food
events in the future, and our first one is going to be on Saturday,
September 8 at the Tasting Room at Uptown Park. We have been working with the
Houston Dairymaids, two women who promote and sell artisan Texas
cheeses (http://www.houstondairymaids.com), to put this together. Along with
the Tasting Room crew, we all sat down and created a St. Arnold &
cheese pairing menu. Cost is $20 per person. This will include 6 cheeses
and 7 beers, including Divine Reserve No. 5. Cheeses and beers will be
available for purchase after the event as well. Attendance will be
limited so sign up quickly. Here is the info:
Event: St. Arnold & Texas Cheese pairing

Blvd)

TEXANS VS COLTS BUS TRIP ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 23
The Texans have looked much improved this preseason so we are eagerly
awaiting the start of the regular season and to see if we can repeat a
victory over last year’s Super Bowl Champion Colts. For this, we are
organizing a special bus trip to the game. We purchased a block of seats
in the endzone, mezzanine level. We will be having everybody gather
at the brewery Sunday morning. The bus will leave very shortly after 9
AM and take everyone to our tailgating tent in the parking lot for some
pregame fun. Then we will go in and hopefully watch our Texans give a
butt-kicking to the Colts! After the game, the bus will return
everybody to their cars in our parking lot. The brewery will not be open
upon return. Here are the details:
Event: Bus trip to Texans vs Indianapolis Colts

Time: Meet at the brewery, arriving shortly before 9 AM. We are not
allowed to serve beer at that hour. Sorry!
