January 08, 2008 By: CarpetGuy Category: Beer and wine making, Beer/Brew Equipment, Cool Websites, Homebrew Competition No Comments →

If you are a home brewer, I know that you are always looking for “The Place” to get your supplies, as I have been, but I have to admit that about 99% of the time, I have ordered from Austin Homebrew Supply. Why you might ask? First off they are close, and my order gets here within a coule of days, even in the summer, my yeast gets here with an icepack that is still cold!

The pricing is much lower than other stores and the service is excellent, if you order on-line visit Austin Homebrew Supply I will be making another order in a day or two myself. If you are lucky enough to live in the Austin area, here is their information.

[image]Ok, we made it through one more year! I hope that everyone has had a wonderful 2007 and an even better 2008!

I just dread one thing, when I have to write the date on a check or something, somehow it seems to take until june before I get it right. This year I may add posts about brew pubs etc into the category list, why not right?

Anyone that has a favorite, beer, brew, bar or related site, post a comment here and I will check them out!

Again, I wish everybody a wonderful new year! Have a Cold one!

[image]I have to mention U-Brew.com , inRochester, Minnesota, because it is one of those Home Beer Brewing Supply shops that offers an option to brew it there! This is something that many of the local brew shops offer, but it isn’t promoted that much, maybe because they just don’t want to be over run by new brewers?Whatever the case may be, there is probably a homebrew supply near you that can help.If you are in Colorado Springs, Colorado check out MyHomebrew.com they too offer on premises brewing.[image]The Brewers Apprentice , in Freehold New Jersey is another, check them out online at BrewApp.comIf you know these guys, post a comment and tell us all about them. If you know of another shop where you are, post that in the comments as well.I am sure that I could go on and on about this, but I wont, here is a search link that may help. Have a Cold one, Cheers!Technorati Tags: beer, wine, brew on premises, homebrew supply, brew your own, hophead

Kegerator Do’s and Don’ts

December 27, 2007 By: CarpetGuy Category: Beer/Brew Equipment, Cool Websites No Comments →

Kegerator Do’s and Don’ts
TheDrunkMansBlog

Do’s

* Do get a kegerator. If you drink beer regularly, then it’s worth it. The beer is cheaper when you buy it by the keg, and it’s more convenient to just take your glass to the tap.
* If your wife or girlfriend objects to the kegerator, then tell her you are doing it to save the environment. After all, re-usable kegs are much more eco-friendly than all that glass for the bottles.
* Do clean your beer lines each time you switch out your keg(s). The beer in those lines is the perfect growth medium for bacteria and yeast that will make your beer taste like crap. Your lines should be cleaned once per month at the least.

I found this post by accident, got to looking around and found there is a lot of useful information at this site! I am putting this one in my Blogroll!

How to Build a Kegerator

December 24, 2007 By: CarpetGuy Category: Beer and wine making, Beer/Brew Equipment, Cool Websites 1 Comment →

How to Build a Kegerator
Draft beer can be served in the comfort of one’s home with a kegerator (a portmanteau of “keg” and “refrigerator”). Kegerators are converted refrigerators that enable anyone to have one or more kegs of chilled beer on tap. Homebrewed beer as well as commercial kegs of beer can be served with a kegerator, and the quality will be identical to that found in your local tavern or brewpub. Kegerators are relatively easy to build and operate, and can be quite cost effective. Kegerators are also quite “green”, as they eliminate the need for bottled and canned beer. read more

I found this and thought it could be helpful, I use a chest freezer myself
