Oprah Is Going To The Dogs
I get a pretty steady flow of emails from “Christians” who rant and rave about Oprah and her new age teaching shows. I don’t disagree that Oprah teaches and brings into the mainstream a lot of New Age thinking and I also recognize that she does a ton of very good things as well.
This Friday she will air a special report by Lisa Ling about puppy mills. This show will be dedicated to the memory of her late dog Sophie who died after 13 years of “unconditional love”.
I love people, I REALLY DO…but there is not a creature on earth (minus my wife) who I love more than my dog, Nedd.
Nedd is a constant source of love and encouragement, entertainment and goodness. Not out of fear and conditioning but because it is his natural disposition.
We raised Nedd from the time his mother rejected a litter of 8 pups, around the clock we fed and nurtured them to health and then my wife, Trina, found great homes for 7 of them, but Nedd, he was the big boy of the bunch, a little high strung and demanding so we kept him to be ours. As it has turned out, we are his…no, not in that he dictates our life but in that he has captured our hearts.
We’ve had other dogs and loved them too. Each of them have aptured our hearts in different ways.
I’ll write about them another time but I want to encourage you to watch Oprah this Friday and encourage you to do a couple of things.
1) If you are looking for a dog, consider going to a dog rescue and pound to pick out your perfect pooch…MUTS are AWESOME!
2) Once you have a dog, please have them spayed or neutered.
3) Take care of them…be kind and humane to them…Take them to the Veterinarian when they need to go and don’t complain about the cost of taking care of them…if you plan on doing that, DO NOT GET A PET to begin with.
Here is a link to the story about the Friday episode of Oprah.
You know, we could learn a lot about how to treat one another if we would watch our dogs.
