We found some sprouting garlic in our pantry. We stuck the cloves in a pot of soil.

This is food porn of the highest order. As for the parsley, uh, never mind. :D

until a couple of years ago, we hated parsley. now, it’s grown on us. - b.

Nicole on March 19, 2008 2:18 pm

I have been checking out your site for few weeks and really enjoy the great job you guys are doing. I grow garlic greens all the time-every small inner clove gets stuck among the plants in the kitchen garden. They are great,as showcased, with cheese, as well as salad dressings and in pesto.

Meera on March 19, 2008 3:03 pm

I envy you your garlic greens. Aeons ago when i was a student here, in the US, i was suddenly homesick for my moms Undhiyu and the one vital central thing i couldnt find anywhere was green garlic. Gotta get me a pot of earth soon. Thank you for a lovely post

Garlic chives curry and Bajra Rotlo is a staple in my wife’s Gujju repertoire. A wonderful, rustic combination.

shilpa on March 20, 2008 12:07 pm

Gorgeous pictures B & J.Never tried these..although we would plant the sprouting onions.

mogra on March 20, 2008 10:50 pm

Thanks for this super idea. I will grow garlic chives. I miss here in US. Never found in Indian store, and frozen garlic sprouts from Korean market does not taste same. Although I use them a lot in different recipes.

I am garlic fan. My friends use to tease that I will be married in a family where they don’t eat garlic :( , I am happy it didn’t turn out true. My favorite garlic recipe : chop garlic or garlic chives/ green garlic (seasonal in India) and saute in ghee with little salt, eat it with bajari rotala … tastes super….

Mum use to give for breakfast during winter season.

Reg. the garlic greens, this is the first time I knew about this. I have thrown away sprouted garlic a couple of times, thinking that it’s harmful to consume. Not anymore!

Thank You.
