Are you ready to deploy?

As a first-time poster to offensivechristians.com I should share my situation with you before proceeding. I’m a young Christian, husband, father of three beautiful young ladies and am deploying in less than 48 hours to conduct combat operations in the Global War on Terrorism. Although this is my first deployment, I have spent years studying the enemy and their tactics.
Our enemies use widely varying tactics, but are always on the offensive. Some conventional tactics include the use of land mines gained from the Soviet Union back in the 1980s, high-tech improvised explosive devices, full out frontal attacks with machine guns or RPGs and, perhaps the most damaging, (mis)information operations via the media and word of mouth.
I am ready to engage the enemy. I know what to expect because I have studied their tactics and am prepared to respond.
Can you say the same? Although you (hopefully) will not face enemies of this sort, you will face those who mock your Christian beliefs, have a multitude of arguments prepared and are ready to go on the offensive. What can you do?
Study their tactics and arm yourselves. One of our goals is to expose attacks on Christianity that you may be exposed to. Some are straightforward and have been around a long time while others are so subtle you might not even be realizing them. Let’s use this venue to share information and learn from each other’s experiences. I’m not deploying alone…why should you?

There you have it folks. This man is willing to go forward for a good cause – and he’s willing to put himself in danger for it as well. We need this kind of passion for God’s kingdom. We need to be willing to go forward and put ourselves in whatever danger necessary to save the lost. Its not going to be a cakewalk – Its a war with higher stakes than any other. This man is my hero. May God bless him and protect him. He’s willing to step forward – Are you?

Deployment recap
My first deployment is history. I gratefully returned early (more on the “early” part later) to my family and have had an opportunity to reflect on my time away. Unlike many who “hated every minute”, I tried to view this as an opportunity to become a better Christian, husband and father. The Word consistently provided exactly what I needed exactly when I needed it. On one occasion I found Psalm 91 extremely powerful and comforting. Soon after reviewing this passage I experienced a situation that would have completely unnerved me just a few years ago and instead experienced an inner peace and strength that quite honestly surprised me.
I am also grateful God has equipped some so well to serve as teachers. Every minute invested in Lou Priolo’s “Teach Them Diligently” was time well spent. Lou (as if we’re on a first name basis) presented a biblical approach to disciplining children and covered:
- What God expects from us
- Teaching versus training
- Teaching in the moment
- Convicting and correcting with the scriptures
- Biblical references for common sins
If you have children or intend to some day I highly recommend this book.
“God’s plan” continued to awe me this trip. As I alluded to earlier, I returned a few weeks early from this deployment to attend a military training course. On April 1st, of all days, a series of events occurred that seem the equivalent of lightening striking the same place three times that enabled me to return home early for this training…which just happens to be where Lou Priolo is the Director of Biblical Counseling at the Eastwood Presbyterian Church. Pretty cool, huh?!?
