Encouraging Christians and the Church to go on the Offense

Home Educators of Virginia Convention 2008

I’m at the Home Educators of Virginia Convention this weekend. It has been a great time and I’ve had the chance to hear some encouraging and convicting messages. Today’s keynote address was delivered by Gregg Harris and he gave some fantastic insights from scripture and his 25+ years of homeschooling. I’ll let Gregg describe himself in his own words: Gregg Harris is a follower of Jesus Christ who serves as a practical theologian, social philosopher and local church reformer/pastor. He attempts to walk in the giant footsteps of great men such as Martin Luther, John Calvin, Abraham Kuyper, Theodore Roosevelt, Francis Schaeffer, Dr. David Wells, Dr. Albert Mohler, Dr. Wayne Grudem and Dr. John Piper. He currently serves as a Teaching Elder of Household of Faith Community Church, in Gresham, OR (see www.hofcc.org) and as the Director of Noble Institute for Leadership Development, a not-for-profit educational organization (see www.nobleinstitute.org.) Gregg is internationally known as a pioneer advocate in the Christian home schooling movement, author a best selling book, The Christian Home School and developer of The Noble Planner Time Management System. He is the husband of Sono Sato Harris, and the father of seven children, among whom are, Joshua Harris, author of I Kissed Dating Goodbye, Joel Harris, Director of the Northwest Academy of Worship Music, Alex & Brett Harris, founders & co-hosts of TheRebelution.com web site, and three others still in their younger years.

Offensive Christians plans to interview Mr. Harris tomorrow and will publish an Internet radio show from that interview.

We were able to interview Dr. Jay Wile of Apologia Educational Ministries. He has PhD in Nuclear Chemistry and some very interesting thoughts about creationism and reasons to believe in a young earth. We will have a internet radio show up from his interview as well.

Thanks for checking in today. Expect more updates from the convention.

David

Verse of the Day

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-8
