TiVo is rolling out an update for subscribers who own a TiVo Premiere, TiVo Premiere XL and TiVo Premiere Elite, called Version 20.2, reports Digital Trends. The update includes, among many enhancements, a multi-room streaming feature across all TiVo devices connected to the same network. The user interface has been redesigned to now include a mini-guide that allows viewers to continue watching television at a full-screen capacity with the guide appearing at the bottom of the screen displaying three channels at a time. It will retain all of the capabilities of the regular, full-screen channel guide. The update to the device’s search function now includes the ability to search for content on Hulu Plus (a similar feature for Netflix, Amazon Prime and Blockbuster was already available).

It just occurred to me that I would like to try a fondue, but don’t want to own one. It would be great to have a Kitchen Tool Lending Library. I can think of a few things we (and other people) could borrow. There’s no need to accumulate gadgets that we’d use only once in a while.
- waffle maker
- pasta machine
- fondue
- pitchers (for a birthday party)
- big pasta pot (for a pasta party)
- juicer (for the couple of times when we bought tons of oranges)
So I googled “kitchen tool lending library†and of course I found out that Portland, OR has done it already (had in the back of my mind the Portland Tool Lending Library I heard of years ago). I found a Treehugger article tittled What’s mine is yours. What I’m looking for it’s called Collaborative Consumption, and that takes the weight of our shoulders from the pressure of buying all these tools. Of course, you can choose  to do things the old fashion way and figure out how to solve your kitchen dilemmas. I can do without fondue but there’s already an inventory of tools out there that people have sitting in their kitchens. They could donate those to the Kitchen Tool Lending Library in my town (there isn’t one yet) so they don’t just sit in a crowded garage.
More importantly, after reading (and watching the video by Rachel Bostman) about Collaborative Consumption, I like the idea that “technology is taking us back to old market ways of trading, bartering, sharing and lendingâ€. I think it is possible to create more community connections by sharing what you have and your knowledge of it. I’ll show you how to use a pasta machine and we can have a pasta party at the same time. Then you can do the same with friends. I have a few vintage tablecloths that are just sitting in my closet. I can’t use everything I own, but I can barter with it or share it with my community. Food has a way of reaching people (and their tummies), gathering interest, jump starting conversations. Everybody eats, we have that in common to begin with. In this post I went from wanting to make fondue to thinking about ways to reach into our community and creating meaningful connections. Perhaps I just need to go on Twitter and ask for a fondue in exchange for a loaf of bread or something.
