Learning to say Thank You
Most of us have the phrase “thank you” drilled into our minds, creating an almost autopilot reflex to the actions of others. But that auto-response, doesn’t that leave us out of the experience?
Saying “thank you” can be fulfilling and replenishing. How can we bring this simple phrase to that level?Â
Slow down. When you are given a thank you, understand that there is a communication you are receiving. That person is saying hello to you, and you can receive it. Even if they cannot reach close enough to you to see who you are, you can bring that connection to the heart. Experience this very moment. There are a million parts of you that can pick this moment to pieces. Take that thank you for exactly what it is: right here, right now. No tomorrow’s, no expectations. Just a “thank you”. Thank yourself. We forget to give to ourselves. What’s more, we push away parts of ourselves. Next time you stand face to face with a part of you that you no longer want say, “thank you”. Thank you for doing your best. Thank you for trying to make things work. Giving honor to those parts of ourselves that don’t often get recognition will discharge the judgment and bring peace into your life.
