By now, you are aware that gas drilling companies are active in our area buying leases for the gas rights to our properties.  These leases are typically 5 year leases valued from $25/acre to over $5,000/acre plus royalties.  There are now over 25 landowner coalitions in upstate New York and Northern Pennsylvania, all of which are very active because of gas drilling activities.

Whether you own a little, or a lot of land in the Town of Sidney, your land lies above the coveted Marcellus Shale gas area and greedy Landmen and gas drilling companies are most anxious to get to the abundant bounty deep beneath our earth.  An impact study done for Broome County (September 2009) shows that the 10 year fiscal impact from the Marcellus Shale will be 4,000+ jobs and $4 Billion dollars to the local economies, annually.  Wow!  There is little that one can do to prevent the highly probable gas rush that will hit our area in the very near future.  Remember when Mom and Dad told us to look both ways when crossing the road?  Education and planning seems to be the best way to prepare ourselves as we venture doen this almost certain path.

The Sidney Area Landowners Association is an ad hoc, voluntary group of Town of Sidney landowners with an interest in obtaining desirable gas lease agrements with emphasis on;

As part of an organization, we will have the ability to negotiate the best prices and to protect ourselves by maintaining environmental standards.  With a great deal of help from the Unatego Landowners, we are now establishing the Sidney Landowners group.  The Unatego group has nearly 2 years experience in educating themselves and their members in this serious business.

Whether you own a little, or a lot of land in the Town of Sidney, get the facts before you sign a gas lease.  This lease is not a simple document but is a very complex business transaction with long term implications.  We have agreed to retain the firm of Levine Gouldin & Thompson who have premier experience with gas leasing to afford the best protection and monetary reward.  This firm is also representing most of the area gas coalition groups.
