(Las Vegas, NV) – In what seems to be another great year for the World Series of Poker, the staple poker pros are showing their prowess with several top cashes and four first place finishes…so far. With online poker sites, satalite tournaments from around the world and other means of feeding players into the annual famed poker tournaments, the competition has been tough with the appearance of the household names dwindling in years past…but their back!
To kick things off with the third event of the year, the $1,500 Pot Limit Hold em event, David Singer beat 713 players to take home $214,122. Then, last week, Erik Lindgren claimed the $5,000 buy-in Mixed Hold’em event and $374,505 when he outlasted 332 players. Then on Wednesday (June 11) Mike “The Mouth” Matusow beat 85 players and claimed the $5,000 buy-in No-Limit Deuce-to-Seven Draw Lowball event and $537,857 against a final table filled with the best players in the world. And then, to add to the excitement, last night (June 12) Canadian poker pro Daniel Negreanu outlasted 480 players in the $2,000 Limit Hold-em event and walked away with $204,863.
Pictured below are the staple pros who have top ten finishes in the four events mentioned in this post. In order from left to right are: (Top Row) David Singer, Erick Lindgren, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, Daniel Negreanu, , Roland de Wolfe. For the record, that is $1,331,347 claimed by four individuals…who are extremely well-known poker players. Also, don’t think that these guys are playing easy fields by any means. Of the four events, there were a total of 1,610 players entered. In each of these four tournaments, the final tables consisted of several other seasoned veterans such as Roland de Wolfe (Lindgren’s Tourney-Placed 4th for $117,030), Howard Lederer (Lindgren’s Tourney-Placed 6th for $74,119), David Williams (Lindgren’s Tourney-Placed 7th for $58,515), Barry Greenstein (Matusow’s Tourney-Placed 3rd for $225,553), Erick Lindgren (Matusow’s Tourney-Placed 4th for $156,152), and Tony “G” Guoga (Matusow’s Tourney-Placed 6th for $78,076). Add up the total take from the four winners and these additional six (Lindgren listed twice) and you get an astounding $2,040,792!Â
While the $10,000 No-Limit WSOP Championship Event doesn’t take place until next month, it will host around 5,000 (or more) players. If the preliminary events are to serve as any indicators, look for big name action at the final table.Â
