BlogRodent’s Car Crash

I think I said goodbye to my trusty 1990 Toyota Tercel today.

Driving to work this morning under a drizzly, overcast sky, someone jumped the curb in the median and wound up in my lane. The SUV ahead of me came to a quick stop and I hydroplaned right into her.

It looks like it was the kiss of death for my fuel-efficient, portable fortress of solitude. The hood is accordioned, the radiator flattened up against the motor block, internal organs—uh, parts—are all moved around. Fluids leaked.

Man, 255,000 miles and counting. At least it died a noble death, shielding me from all harm.

Meanwhile, I await the police report, a phone call from my insurance adjustor, and a possible court date. (Otherwise, I’d share more details.)

If it occurs to you, please pray that I find another inexpensive, highly fuel-efficient replacement that will comfortably seat a man 6’3”, weighing a considerable bit more than you do. I commute over 100 miles a week, so it must be reliable. But I cannot afford a car payment, so I must buy highly used.

I’ll be praying too.

Oh—nobody was hurt. And the only real damage was to my car.

Rich.

Rich,
Glad you are still in one piece. If it makes you feel any better, i’m driving 90 miles a DAY in a Dodge 3/4 ton 4×4 DIESEL!

:-)

Uh, thanks Marc.

The gas bill, alone, would equal a car payment each month!

Plus, the last thing I need is a pimped-out ride that would make me a more tasty morsel for the Wheaton police. I have been, at various times, interrogated at roadside by police for a) “Fitting the description” of a fugitive, b) brushing my teeth, c) noise pollution, d) straying too close to the yellow line, e) sitting in my car at a park, f) sitting in my car at a Walgreens, g) sitting on my porch at my home, and h) walking too late at night (multiple times).

I’m guessing tall, swarthy guys just don’t blend in as well as we used to.

Rich.

Over 100 miles each week!!! LOL!!!! Hang onto that, brother. My last job required a 130 mile roundtrip each day. Before that it was 340 roundtrip once a week. If it wern’t for David Jeremiah, Ravi Zacharias and K*Love I would have gone crazy.
Glad no one was hurt in your accident.
