Cheap Reads

January 31, 2008 > 4 Comments

When my husband I decided to become debt free, one of the first things I did was check out every finance, thrifty living, and get out of debt book I could find at our library. Other than my bible that was all I read last summer. There were many great books out there, and a few really bad ones. I did find that in most books I didn’t agree with everything or every idea the authors were promoting, but I could glean something from almost every book.

Here is a list of the books I found particularly helpful:

The The Complete Tightwad Gazette by- Amy Dacyczyn This was probably the best book I read on thrifty habits. Sometimes she is a little extreme but there are so many great ideas in this book. I liked it so much I asked for it for Christmas. The Millionaire Next Door by- Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko Miserly Moms: Living on One Income in a Two-Income Economy by- Jonni McCoy The Complete Cheapskate by – Mary Hunt The Automatic Millionaire by – David Bach America’s Cheapest Family Gets You Right on the Money by- Steve Economides and Annette Economides And of course all the Dave Ramsey books

The best thing about it was that it didn’t cost me a penny.

Those books are good but the one that kicked it off for me was Free and Clear by Howard Dayton. What do you think of his book?

I loved Tightwad Gazette also. It changed my whole thinking about how life should be. It is amazing how many people love it.

I’m definitely going to look for these in my local library. Thanks for the advice!
