MOVIE REVIEW: Rampart

Film: Rampart
Starring: Woody Harrelson
Directed by: Oren Moverman

Giving his best performance in years, Woody Harrelson shines in the gritty L.A. noir Rampart, but even his best efforts are not enough to keep this often tedious story afloat.

Set in 1999 Los Angeles, Rampart follows veteran police officer Dave Brown (Harrelson) and his, to say the least, unique approach to police work. He’s hot-headed, more than a bit racist, and willing to do whatever it takes to make sure he survives the jungle of the city as his lifetime of misdoings slowly begins to catch up to him, …

Crank Director Attached To Twisted Metal Movie

Cars, guns, psychopaths, and a wish granting ominous figure. No, this isn’t a preview of the gritty reboot of Aladdin, it is all the ingredients to the great Playstation game Twisted Metal. After many years fans of the game series are finally going to get what they have been hoping for: a Twisted Metal movie.

Normally video game movies are a terrible idea. They turn out awful like Doom, Street Fighter, or anything that Uwe Boll has ever directed. Twisted Metal has a huge advantage though. Sony has signed Brian Taylor to direct. Why is this so awesome? …

Under The Gun is continuing our efforts to bring you more original and engaging content with REASONABLE REMAKES. Written by film-nerd Justin Proper, this column aims to highlight Hollywood’s forgotten gems and spark debate.

You see, we’ve grown tired of Hollywood rehashing ideas we’re old enough to remember. Why remake something the majority of the planet still remembers and loves deeply when there are tons of films that deserve a chance to be as great as modern technology and skill can make them? If you agree, this column is for you.

Vampires have gotten completely out of hand. …

MOVIE REVIEW: The Vow

Film: The Vow
Starring: Channing Tatum, Rachel McAdams
Directed by: Michael Sucsy

Every Valentine’s Day, like clockwork, studios ready and release films targeted at frustrating men and wooing women throughout the Hallmark-holiday time frame of mid-February. Some years, this works well for the betterment of cinematic history and some truly great films are released inspiring passion and love, but more often than not the exact opposite happens, leaving guys to question their lovers choices in art and leaving ladies to defend their picks to said guys. I have seen this cycle repeat at least twenty times in my life (my …

MOVIE REVIEW: Safe House

Film: Safe House
Starring: Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds
Directed by: Daniel Espinosa

Ryan Reynolds does his best, but proves once again no one can hold a candle to Denzel Washington with Safe House.

Opening today, the latest film from Swedish-born Daniel Espinosa promises a lot and does a relative great job of keeping its word. That should come as no surprise to anyone who notices Washington’s name in the headline though, as he has continually proven to be a star unlike any other even with the weakest script.…

MOVIE TRAILER: The Amazing Spider-Man

The official trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man has finally arrived online.

Offering more than a handful of glimpses into the plot and feel of Marvel’s latest reboot, the trailer The Amazing Spider-Man does a great job of separating the new series from the one released LESS THAN A DECADE AGO. You can view the trailer after the jump.

Bloggers and comic fans have been debating how “good” the trailer is all day long. If you ask me, it looks to be a bit more light-hearted, possibly like Kick-Ass, which is definitely a good. What do you think? Comment below …

SCENE AND HEARD: “Tron: Legacy”

Written by UTG critic Grace Duffy, Scene & Heard takes a look at the music that makes our favorite films so memorable. Whether it’s the 400-piece orchestra Christopher Nolan used for The Dark Knight, or the dozen or so bands that contributed to the soundtrack of Top Gun, there is no denying the impact music has on movies and this column hopes to highlight the best of the best.

If you have a suggestion for a film we should cover on Scene & Heard, please contact us by emailing utgjames@gmail.com.

Given the intensely cult following that the original Tron
