Australian Virtual Console releases : August 17th, 2007 - Finally .. Wave Race 64 !

August 17th, 2007 by perry

There were four Virtual Console releases in the Australian Wii shop this week … but one that matters more than most …. Wave Race 64 !!

Other regions have had this game for a while, so it’s nice that Australian Wii owners finally have the chance to play it. Wave Race 64 was a release title for the original Nintendo 64, and is considered a classic in terms of playability.

Also released this week were three Turbografx-16 titles, Cratermaze and Drop Off (released in Europe last week and the US much earlier) and Galaga ‘90.

Cratermaze (TG-16). Personally I think they should have kept the original name, Booby Kids. :)

Drop Off (TG-16) is a weird version of Breakout (or more strictly, Arkanoid, since it has powerups). This actually looks like it could be a fun mindless arcade game, and will probably go on my rainy-day list.

Galaga ‘90 (TG-16) is an updated version of the classic arcade shooter. Just in case you’ve been living in a fallout shelter since the very early ’80’s, Galaga is like Space Invaders, but better. I’m not sure if I prefer the simplicity of the original Galaga arcade graphics or the new ‘updated’ sprites and backgrounds … I may even end up buying both versions, since I love this game :). One of the best parts of Galaga, the superb sounds, have been preserved nicely in Galaga ‘90.

Man, whoever played for this Gametrailers video is hopeless !! Just look at how many enemies they miss in the “Galactic Dancing”stage !!
