wow, i was about to sign up for mediatemple grid web hosting services, as it seems very reliable as advertised on their web site. Do you still keep having that down time problem now?

Artem

Excellent info. Much appreciated!

@matt – I am not using the GS any more – I Moved to a DV server. But other than the big hiccup – it has had minimal downtime.

Downtime can be a real nightmare. It made sense for me about three years ago to move to a host which was much more expensive than I was used to, but which offered the kind of support that meant if the server went down, I could get in touch and they would quickly get it up and running again – each time it went down, I lost a lot of money because their support was so poor and unresponsive, and they were less than transparent anyway. The ‘costs’ of downtime with my old cheaper host was more than the cost involved with my newer host, and the server I have now is far more reliable anyway and the people there actually seem to know what they’re doing.

Down time can have far reaching consequences. If your server is down when Google comes uh knocking it can have some really serious consequences. It sounds as if MT has stabilized it system. And it definitely sounds as if they have made it right with by giving you the discount.

I have hosted my site in mediatemple (mt) gridserver (gs). Very frequently I am facing MySQL down issue. When contacted their support, they say it is a known issue and ask us to migrate to a higher plan and pay more!

Support is very slow, takes 30 hours to comeback with a response. Until then, our site will be down. I see your post is on 2008 and now it is year 2010, still the issue is not solved with gridserver.

I don’t agree with the solution of moving to a higher plan. If in that case, why do they have a plan associated with gridserver as it is not even supporting basic needs.

Mediatemple definitely gives you the best feature set, but that comes at a premium. One the other hand, if you want quality, I think Mediatemple is the way to go.
