21st century protesting

Not too long ago, Ed Brown of Darkstar spouts off dropped an idea that I thought was a pretty good one. He proposed to a few churches in his area that they invest in some stock with Radio One (one of the leading–if not THE leading–provider of urban radio here in the US). This way folks who are really concerned with the quality of music that is served on our radio market will now have an economic tool to wield when the industry ignores those of us who have been vocal against offensive and stereotype music. From what I remember, Ed said that unfortunately the churches did not go for his idea.

I think it is a great idea. I just checked Radio One’s current stock price and as of right now it is sitting at $7.22. Just think about it, if we could formulate a simple investment club made up of thousands of Radio One listeners all across America where each member could buy several shares, we could very well have an economic impact on Radio One if they continue to play demeaning garbage on the radio.

Like Ed, I’m just pitching this idea out there to hopefully get folks thinking about doing something like this. This is one negro who has some money in hand and is ready to do something like this with others.

This site lists just some of the more well-known discount online brokers out there. For those of you who have never invested before, you may want to check out either ShareBuilder or OptionsXpress as they are catered to novices.

Again, this will only work as a group effort.

You got it right.

Radio One is on notice from the SEC to file its accounting paper work that has had to be redone because they, like others, have to adjust the numbers because of stock options. If they don’t get it done they will be de-listed.
