Band of Brothas

22, Sep 2007

In case you missed it last night, there was a story on 20/20 that just was too amazing not to at least mention here. The article below tells the story:
(navytimes.com) Spc. Channing Moss should be dead by all accounts. And those who saved his life did so knowing they might have died with him.

After Jena, now what?

21, Sep 2007

A reader asked me the following question-
“I’m reading this blog and asking myself where do we begin. I went to support the Jena 6 and I will be more than willing to support the injustices in my home state. Where do we go to become more informed about what’s going on in our cities or [...]

“The opportunities are almost endless. International trade is expanding at a level the world has never seen before. If we can maintain international civility, which is what trade enhances as opposed to war, there’s really no end in sight to the opportunities. The opportunity ladder can be jumped onto and climbed by even the humblest [...]

I have always said that all the reports about a growing race war between Blacks and Hispanics in the LA area were overblown. The following article arrives at the same conclusion.
(latimes.com) “LAPD is not on the brink,” of a major inter-racial crime wave, three University of California Irvine scholars have concluded after examining assault, robbery [...]

Acquittal rates

20, Sep 2007

Yesterday while sitting in traffic, I heard someone on the radio mention that the acquittal rate in inner-city areas was around 50 percent.
Doing some pecking around the net, I came across the following article-
Written by Walter Olson back in 1996

Is It Really an In-Justice System?
For many, it’s an article of faith: The justice system is [...]

(blackenterprise.com) CPA firms Kahn Boyd Levychin (KBL) and Eisner courted each other for two years. The courtship was very traditional–they lunched, dined, and attended each other’s functions. Soon, things got serious. Eisner proposed to KBL and cemented a match made in financial heaven.
KBL, the only majority African American-owned CPA firm on Wall Street, and Eisner [...]

Running with a blurb

19, Sep 2007

I’ll admit out of the box that I did not see the Donavan McNabb interview on Real Sports, but his comment about Black quarterbacks has been swirling in my brain these last couple of days.
As a person who grew up watching the Eagles and was constantly around die hard Eagles fans on both sides of [...]

Black Bloggers Are Sick of BET and ‘Gangsta Crap’ Music
[ClickPress, Wed Sep 19 2007] Black Bloggers have united to battle mainstream music and entertainment fat-cats who profit off the stereotypical, sexist, and racist exploitation of African American people. Their main targets are Black
Entertainment Television (BET), who they call ‘Black Exploitation Television’, and gangsta rappers such [...]

(surfsantamonica.com) Ink Well Beach, the 200-square-foot portion of Santa Monica State Beach that was once roped off and reserved only for African-Americans, will soon be awarded its own commemorative plaque by the City.
The City Council directed staff last year to research options for creating a plaque in honor of Ink Well Beach and surfer Nicolas [...]
