Boosting Black male enrollment in college

Former president of Mississippi Valley State University, Lester Newman has come up with a plan to help boost enrollment of Black males in college. According to this article, he is suggesting that “…the College Board establish incentives to encourage schools to recruit and graduate more black males in teacher education and work to place quality teachers in the state’s low-income school districts.” Personally, I am not a fan of this approach because it creates yet another NCLB situation where schools will resort to just teaching the test in order to get incentive money. Much of this relies on encouragement coming from the home. If it is not there, there is nothing more the state can do.
