John Edwards Offers Oil Heating Plan
John Edwards keeps giving us common sense politics. A concept lost on Washington. As oil prices rise Edwards seems to be the only candidate addressing over priced heating oil and he offers a solution. Shockingly, it’s involves going after oil companies for price gouging and tap into its heating and oil reserves. Edwards also proposes a financial assistance program to winterize homes.
It makes sense to me that we need invest in all aspects of the energy issues for everyone to benefit, especially low income families. Addressing issues that affect the majority and not supporting projects that only benefit the elite should be what presidential candidates should focus on; which is what John Edwards consistently does.
Former Senator John Edwards outlined a proposal yesterday in New Hampshire to lower the cost of heating oil, increase regulation of oil companies and promote energy efficiency.
Speaking at a town hall-style campaign event in Meredith, N.H., Mr. Edwards said home heating oil in the state had risen sharply to about $3 a gallon, nearly triple the cost in 2000.
To ease the financial burden for low-income families, Mr. Edwards, a Democrat from North Carolina, said Congress should tap into its heating and oil reserves and increase subsidies to the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which he said President Bush had unfairly scaled back. In February, Mr. Bush proposed an 18 percent cut in the program, which provides $2.2 billion this year to help people pay heating bills.
“That should be strengthened and expanded, particularly this year, given the rise in prices,†Mr. Edwards said.
He also spoke out against oil companies, saying they exerted too much control and should be investigated more fully by the Justice Department. “We need to find out if these oil companies are gouging the American people, because we know they’re making a lot of money,†Mr. Edwards said. “We need to stop subsidizing the big oil companies’ profits with taxpayer money.â€
He proposed increasing financial assistance for a program to winterize homes, putting it on a $500 million annual budget, and supporting emergency loans for families to pay heating bills.

This over reaching Empire is gonna need a very strong president. One that will ameliorate an congress - that has lost its moral compass. We are headed for a big time Depression , and it likely will not be televised. Watch though more and more people will “go postal” - sorry to be so gloomy , but i look out and and do not see that even a new president , OR a democratic congress is gonna change this heartlessness of our federal government towards its own people.

I feel that enough people have opened their eyes to put the correct person in the White House for a positive change. What most are starting to remember and stand up about is the “we” are the government and change is possible. Giving up now will only fulfill the continuation of the “heartless federal government.”

Using the power of their numbers consumers save an average of $275 - $500 a year on their home heating oil costs by purchasing fuel as members of a group. Home heating oil prices are subject to supply, demand, geography, politics, weather conditions and other factors. During cold weather, oil prices rise; but through negotiations with oil heat suppliers, Pilgrim gets the best prices for oil group members year-round.
