UPDATE: Economic Stimulus Check Glitch
UPDATE:
Taxpayers and tax preparers, like H & R Block, are discovering that anyone who elected to have tax preparation fees deducted from their tax refund will not receive their economic stimulus checks through direct deposit.
The IRS originally announced that those who had tax refunds direct-deposited into their bank accounts would receive rebate checks the same way.
However, once taxpayers who should have received the economic stimulus checks by direct deposit this past week started asking questions, the IRS discovered an unanticipated complication.
Instead, they have to mail out those stimulus checks through the U.S. Postal Service, meaning delays for many expecting the money.
The IRS apologized, saying that the last two times they’ve done any kind of rebate, they did it by paper check only.
This is the first time the IRS has had to deal with this direct deposit issue, a spokesman said.
Taxpayers can check the IRS Web site below to see when they can expect their paper checks to go in the mail.

can you let me know when my delivery date is for my stimulus payment or when i can expect it has it already been sent out
May 18th, 2008 at 12:24 am
If everyone looks at the mail out schedule and follow the instructions, you will get a good idea when to expect it.
The best thing to do is use the IRS web page to calculate your amount and read the rules.

NEWS UP DATE! THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE HAS ADMITTED SOME 15,000 REBATE CHECKS HAVE BEEN DIRECT DEPOSITED INTO THE WRONG ACCUNTS.
A COMPUTER PROGRAMING GLITCH IS TO BLAME, ACCORDING TO THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT. CONSUMERS ARE URGED TO GET MORE INFORMATION AT THE IRS WEB SITE OR CALL 1-800-829-1954.
IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A COMPUTER GLITCH, BUT IT TAKES HUMANS TO IMPUT THE WRONG INFO. JUST ANOTHER GOVERNMENT LAY THE BLAME ELSEWHEE.

Michael:
Thank you for your comment it is exactly what the post above is talking about.
While I am not making any excused for the IRS or the government, I think everyone should remember is the checks are an a non scheduled and non budgeted event within the IRS. Bush and Congress threw this at the agency without any additional funds or time for staffing during the regular tax season.
Furthermore, just for an FYI; the IRS scans tax returns in. The information of a tax return is not manually put in a computer by a human. The information is checked for accuracy by a human after the computer scan. Knowing how things work before spouting off is helpful.

I just hope I get mine & the person that has it returns it so it doesn’t look like I am lying.. I get my SSDI and I qualify for my share of $300!
May 21st, 2008 at 11:28 am
If people didn’t spend their checks BEFORE they came, then people wouldn’t be so upset about it. I was supposed to have mine direct deposited no later then May 9th, here it is the 21st and still no check. i’ll get it when I get it. All I know is I didn’t spend it before I got it!
May 23rd, 2008 at 2:13 am
Well Ms.Laura sure wish I didn’t have to pre-spend my stimulus check but good old NAFTA sent my job to mexico about 8 months ago and my unemployment benefits dried up… so when the Gov’t decided to give out a lil extra cheese with a date attached to it I was expecting it on time to pay sum of my June bills…you know for 15 years the gov’t never had a problem taking all those taxes out of my checks everyweek like clockwork..hey Laura since you didn’t have to pre-spend loan me $300 so I can pay my utility bill..ha

Hey, I have a question, maybe somone can help. My SSN ends in 03. I am expecting the paper check as I rec’d an check when I filed my taxes with H&R Block back in Feb.
According to the papers I rec’d from the IRS. I should have rec’d my check by the 16th or a few days to follow. It’s now the 23rd and still no check.
We actually spoke to a human at the IRS and all they said is it was mailed out on the 16th.
Has anyone else out these had the same problem?

May 26th, 2008 at 7:42 am
i think its funny how the first 2 replies are spanish last names,……im sure the irs gets the stimulus checks out to the minorities that already collect state check first. if there is anything left over ,we taxpaying americans might get something too.
this country and its ways seem to benefit everyone but the american taxpayer,…i just wish someone at the big desks would soon take action , and recongnize this matter. this country is in serious trouble….no doubt !.
May 26th, 2008 at 8:31 am
First of all kevin its hispanic last names not spanish…we do not all come from spain! 2nd I agree this country is in serious trouble but if u live in the real world and have 2 jobs that barely pay the bills you are going to take what ever u can get to get a little bit more….sorry not all of us have jobs that pay $30 -50 an hr….and YES I am a HISPANIC who is working and going to school while my boyfriend works also and we are both raising our daughter! It is still hard and yes we do get public aide and help w/ our bills because we qualify for it! So before anyone says anything not all of us has a good paying job w/ a big house…and I can see your struggling a lil bit too because you do want some of the money too!
May 26th, 2008 at 9:11 am
Ps…..I am an AMERICAN I believe so is everyone who is receiving a check, I don’t think people who are here illegally are receiving one! But we all are AMERICAN! Not unless your talking about the rich caucasion people is that who you are referring to as “AMERICAN”???
May 26th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
OK ya’ll. About the PAYOUT SCHEDULE, the published schedule is for tax returns that completed processing before April 15. The mail out date is when your check is handed to the post office, along with several tons of other checks. The post office must sort and deliver those checks. That could take all weekend and into the following week.
As far as those checks that had to mail because of preparer intervention, the address they put on the tax returns are sometimes not accurate, The post office will not forward government checks. They will send checks back for any discrepancy.
If you filed later than April 15, your stimulus payment will follow your refund by 2 weeks.
Forget the schedule. Forget the famous letter … some will get it and some won’t. Most will get their letter after they get their payment.
May 26th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
I was suppose to get my check may 9th, and now its may 26th and still no check, lol. I did my taxes through Hand R block, and I did them a long time ago. But still no check. Its starting to drive me competely nuts, lol. Its a frickin watiting game, and I can’t stand it. Is anyone else going through the samething?
May 26th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Nicole, H&R Block seldom gives your deposit info to the IRS. Read the explanations above. This forces the IRS TO MAIL YOUR CHECK. Make sure your correct address is on your tax return. That means the post office has your check.
May 27th, 2008 at 12:53 am
Those who posted the H&R Block information here thanks taking the time. I’ve been wondering when mine who get here for some time, and this discussion has shed alot of light.
P.S. Just my 2 cents on the little hispanic comments. Who cares 85% of americans are of immigrant decent. IF your here and love this country…….. WELCOME! Qualify to be an american to me.
May 27th, 2008 at 5:32 am
Hello everyone here it is May 27th and I still have not gotten my stimulus payment as of yet. On the irs web site it still saying we are sorry but we can not tell you the status of your stimulus payment. It said if I wanted more information call this number 1-800-829-0582 ex726 I called early around 7am and I only waited for a bout 10 minutes. They told me my should be coming around June 13th. I requested direct deposit and here it is I’m getting a check by snail mail. What a big disapointment. At lest its something to look forward to.
May 27th, 2008 at 9:37 am

Have called the phone mumber and they still can not tell me anything, except sorry but your stimul payment is coming. It seems they have no idea when .I requested direct deposit but still nothing at all from the irs.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Laytoya -
Looks like someone is waiting for a free ride. Here is an idea: get a job and pay your own utility bills.
Never thought of that one uh?
May 27th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Hi Everyone,
The key thing to do for all of us is wait. I went to the irs website and put in my information and finally got more than “we sorry….”,
today it gave me my amount info and my mail out date. and more explaining why they calculated like they did.
Let us not lose focus, we all can use the money, money doesn’t discriminate, only us humans do. So while your waiting for your rebate, take a breath, and be Thankful that your receiving extra money. The money will come, keep checking the website daily.
God Bless Us All!!

Mine should’ve been direct deposit on 5/02. The IRS website “Where’s My Stimulus Payment” says it WAS deposited on 5/02, but the bank has no record of it. Called the IRS…they said 1500 payments went to the wrong bank and that it would take UP TO 30 days to correct and they can’t help me further until after June 2nd. They couldn’t even tell me if mine was one of the 1500. Here it is 5/30, still nothing. I’m not looking forward to the run around I’m going to get when I call them on 6/ 2.
May 30th, 2008 at 5:31 am
I got the best surprise this morning. I called my bank at 6:00am this morning May 30th and my stimulus payment was direct deposited into my account. When I called the IRS they said I would get it on June 13th. which would be if I was getting a paper check. I wish all of you good luck if you have not gotten yours as of yet.
May 30th, 2008 at 11:25 am
ALL,
IF YOUR ORIGINAL TAX RETURN WAS DONE WITH DIRECT DEPOSIT THEN YOUR STIMULUS PAYMENT WILL BE DIRECT DEPOSITED UNLESS YOU FILED THROUGH A THIRD PARTY LIKE H& R BLOCK. THEN A PAPER CHECK WILL BE ISSUED. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU REQUESTED YOUR STIMULUS PAYMENT TO BE DIRECT DEPOSITED THEY WERE NOT TAKING THOSE REQUESTS FOR STIMULUS PAYMENTS. ALSO THOSE FILING THROUGH A THIRD PARTY WILL TAKE A LITTLE ADDITIONAL TIME TO RECEIVE THEIR CHECKS.
May 31st, 2008 at 5:47 pm
I was suppose to get my rebate check May 16th. My last two digits of my ss # is 95. I have not received it. It will be directly deposited. Is there a human at the IRS that can assure me when my check should arrive?
When I try to call the 800 # I get a phone message which seems to be the same each time.
Thanks for any information you may give me.

IF THE QUESTIONS ARE ABOUT THE STIMILUS PAYMENTS, JUST ASK THE QUESTIONS AND LEAVE THE DUMB COMMENTS ELSEWHERE!!
June 2nd, 2008 at 1:37 pm
I agree “KT.” Like most of you, I am very disapointed with stimulus check situation. I posted a question to anyone who had a possible answer to my problem back on May 23rd. There is some valuable information here. It’s now June 2nd and still no check. Kathryn, you mentioned that going through a third party like H&R Block would take addtional time. Did they say how long?
Last, my wife contacted IRS. They said we should have rec’d it by now and asked us to fill out a form regarding the check so they could begin the track and trace process. That could take up to another six weeks. Like some have said, maybe it just wasn’t sent out yet….
June 2nd, 2008 at 1:53 pm
my stimulus payment check was supposed to be mailed on the 23 of may,but nothing in the mail n no way of getting in touch with these people . If any one has a way of getting in touch with a life person please post. ty

Today is June 3rd and I still haven’t recieved my stimulus check. I was suppost to recieve it on May 16th from direct deposit but nothing. When I called the 800 number, i get the same run around that everyone else gets…..”we can’t give you any information at this time…” We did file with H&R Block but I still don’t understand…our refund was directly deposited but why not the stimulus check…can anyone give me any insite…..other than the IRS???
June 3rd, 2008 at 3:04 pm
To those that are posting comments about who should get a job and get off a government aid i feel very compelled to tell you that not only minorities recieve this form of aid and if you continue looking down at others as if you have already arrived then you will be in the same boat they are in and with the economy please hope you dont lose your job next week and get knocked off your high horse. Now there is a stimulus you can take to the bank. God made us all. This is a blog and only those who feel they have gained much when they have gained little are just unhappy with themselves. Racism is why this country is in such despair. I think it’s nice that we’re going to get extra money. I work mortgages and a word of advice is that, while the economy is tough, make a safe haven for yourself my minimizing things you can do without, and paying bills on time. If you really thing about it alot of us took out debts bassed on what we make so there is no way you should not pay things on time. I can only speak for me, but if I have a check that I know that my mortagage comes out of, it’s not wise to go to the movies that week. One payment behind could send you in to termoil. I hope this hopes everyone. I know alot of us are waiting on stimulus checks but when I get mines, I want to use it wisely.
i love everyone God made and there is nothing you can do about it. For those on limited income I will be praying for you all that God replenishes your supply. For those who have more than enough, use your mouth by praying for others instead of tearing them down.
June 5th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
thanks “god’s daughter”, judging by your entire first sentence (that is an entire paragraph), you came to this site and posted a comment to be upset just like the rest of the people. and after reading the rest of your post, don’t really have much of god’s love for any of these people. scolding people for what they say isn’t going to change anything, and stating that “you love everyone god made and there isn’t anything you can do about it” doesn’t really portray a godlike feeling towards anyone.
this stimulus thing was proably a bad idea from the beginning. yes, getting “free” money sounds like a good idea, but i beleive all it’s really been doing is causing people to get upset and frustrated. ,and until i read all these posts, i felt just like everyone else.
but now i see all we can really do is wait. calling the number won’t do any good, of course. and i bet that most of us reading these posts are going to be doing the same think for the next few months: waiting. good luck to everyone!
June 6th, 2008 at 7:22 am
Just wanted to let you know of my situation, which may be the case for many of you still waiting.
I called IRS this morning and spoke with someone, as my husband and I haven’t rec’d a paper check and should have a couple of weeks ago. We have to pay every year, and had our returns mailed by April 15th with our payment
IRS said they haven’t yet processed our return, and until this is done, we will not be getting this payment.
Said they usually have them processed within 4-6 weeks, but they are back logged due to the whole stimulus payment.
So for any of you that have to pay, this could be why you are waiting like the rest of us.
I feel better knowing it’s still coming and wasn’t sent to someone else in error.
June 6th, 2008 at 10:06 am
when you call ‘1-800-829-1040′ just keep pressing ‘0′ it will tell you you are being transfered to an operator. it will seem like forever getting there, but it does work. chin up.
June 10th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Geez.. how nice.. beautifully typed , beautifully comment on to this post…reallly nice.. you kno I am deaf… and I do get those ssi check its HELLA FUCKING HARD TO FIND A JOB JUST BECAUSE IM DEAF WHATS THAT HUH (Im sure most of you dont know what that means)
I WANNA WORK AND NO ONE IS HIRING DISABILITY!!!!! F*** THAT!!!
June 12th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Finally got updated info on IRS site on the Where’s my Stimulus page. Gave amount and when it’s scheduled to go out still ontime not a week early like I have been hearing. To IMDEAF I’m sorry that you are discriminated against most people who have never been don’t understand, whether it is for race, disability, religion or gender or for whatever reason this world is a cold, cruel place and many people go through it with blinders on or just with an arrogant stick up their butt.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Okay everyone….just to let you know, the IRS will NOT be sending checks to anyone who did NOT file a tax return…so for those of you who assume that illegal aliens will be getting a check you have made a wrong assumption. The second item is that I have to agree with some of the other points made about the IRS sending the checks and there being a “glitch” at the post office, it’s true, no entity is perfect…when you put in the human factor (as with Postal employees) you will invariably have mistakes and delays, that’s the way of this country…the sad thing, instead of getting off your butt and trying to make it better the citizens of this country just continue to let it happen….if businesses in this country operated like some of the government offices I know of, they would have to shut their doors within a week due to customer complaints and loss of business….we have become a country of very apathetic people and instead of taking action, all we do is voice our opinion…the even sadder thing is it’s hard to take action on anything for fear that you will be sued or offend someone….
Okay, I’m off my soapbox…I received my stimulus check right on time in fact there is a website to check your status, it’s
https://sa1.www4.irs.gov/irfof/IRServlet?app=IRACTC&action=rebate
this told me that my check would be mailed on May 30th and I actually received it on that day….it does give a number to call if it’s been 30 days and you have not received your check (30 days from the date you should have received it))
June 18th, 2008 at 10:08 am
For those of you who used h and r block, there was an issue with the money being deposited to h and rs account, i guess because when you use them they take their fee out of your return and then give you a check?
i didn’t see this answer on this board, but saw it on others.. I should’ve got mine friday.. however, my tax return showed up about 3-5 days after the date they said i’d have it.. so i’m assuming it’ll be here this week.
June 18th, 2008 at 11:00 am
I filled out a 1040EZ tax form in Feb. I received $182.00 from my refund, I made only $2,420.00(TURBO Tax) Also I’m disable, DIDN’T REPORT MY DISABILITY EARNINGS on that form…I was told to get a 1040X Amended form, this was May 30,2008. I wrote on the top of the form STIMULUS PAYMENT and wrote the amount on first line on B NET CHANGE. My last digits of my social security is 91, will I get my paper check on July 11? Or did I fill it out wrong? When is the deadline to fill out another form?
June 18th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
i just have a question/comment i heard that the irs have made mistakes on the amount of some of the checks and people are getting less than they should. But latter in the year they are going to mail out another check for the difference is that true and if so since i haven’t got mine and i’m not expecting till next week how can i check to see if mine has been miss calculated
June 18th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
For my stimulus check i was expecting $1800 but only got $1200. I filed my tax return together with my wife and i have 2 kids. What do i do?
June 19th, 2008 at 8:05 am

Hello my last two are 79 and im married i filled a joint return have 2 exemptions. Now the irs claims my Stimulus payment was reduced based on your 2007 qualifying income, or it was limited to the amount of your 2007 Net Income Tax Liability. Too 900 dollars now i just got out of the U.S army in august 2007 i filled for taxes late in 2007 because i was serving overseas but in 2008 i filled my taxes on time infact early and got the rapid refund. No money was taking from me except the fee for getting the tax refund quickly. The scheduled time for me to get my stimulas check is july 4 witch happens to run on a holiday. So i gave it until today and still nothing not even a notice saying hey your getting this much and on this date. Now i did get the notice saying im going to get it. I also heard that they went by your 2006 address when mailing out your stimulas check. My question is i guess when should i expect it better yet can you give me number from the IRS so i can talk to a human to find out when they mailed it or if they did at all that would probally serve me best thanks for you attention to this matter. Cody

For 2007 I worked odd jobs part time to supplement my combined SSI & SSD and I am disabled with a diagnosed Mental Illness Schizzoaffect disorder diagnosed 1995 I also worked as a pt counselor for 3 yrs and am waiting to finish my AAS and BBA I am very close to completion my illness challanges me which requires extra dilligence and patients I have fulfilled fieldwork and coursework to sit for the CASAC exam. Recently I was prescribed a med change which I did not tollerate well and exacerbated my illness. I have since rebounded and I am becoming a more self aware and a more cautious and active participant in my treatment process. HOW CAN I STILL FILE TO RECEIVE SOME ASSISTANCE & OR STIMULUS?
July 8th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Cody,
1) Your qualifying income is Wages combined with your self employment income, if you have that.
2) If you had a Tax Liability for a prior year, your Stimulus will pay that. You will receive whats left over (if there is any). If you had any State Tax debt or other government agency (child support, etc, your payment can be offset to that, too.
3) A “Rapid Refund” is nothing more than a HIGH Interest Bank Loan. Refund Anticipation Loans have no relation to your IRS account.
4) You heard wrong. The address you put on your 2007 tax return is all the IRS has to contact you. Some people don’t pay enough attention to the accuracy of that address.

July 14th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Does anyone else know about the supposed mess-up with dependent children?
It was my understanding that single parents got $600 and then $300 per child.
But I got my check for $600 and I have a 15 yr old daughter…then my ex-husband got $600 also and he did not claim her, I did!
Then I heard the IRS messed that up and they may send out an additional check. Can anyone verify?
July 14th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Thoracias, What you heard was not completely accurate.
Yes, children that qualified for Child Tax Credit accounted for $300 each.
Individuals that made over $3000 wages and still had tax AFTER credits were calculated got a bit more. The news media never got that one right.
$300 per taxpayer (husband $300 and wife $300 = $600), PLUS $300 for each child 16 years and under. There was additional added for that portion of tax AFTER credits (Child Tax Credit, Child Care Credit, etc.) were applied.
The IRS web site has the calculator for everyone to see for themselves.
Yes, there were some screw ups that effected few people. Corrections are being made for those few. But, what ever was missed this time will be picked on next year’s return.
July 15th, 2008 at 6:05 am
Thanks bosskitty…but I’m still not sure I understand why as a single mom with one dependent, I got a total of $600…and a single man with NO dependents ALSO got $600. My ex’s best friend is a single/no dependent also and he, too, got $600.
Without the children, they had fewer tax credits than me, right? (I know my ex and I both filed 1040-A if that helps)
July 15th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Thoracias:
The $600.00 is based on your tax liability. Children are added to the total of a persons 2007 tax liability, which can be as low as $300.00
There is no set minimum for someone with children or someone without children. It is a math formulate calculated on your 2007 tax liability. Which is why the IRS required a 2007 tax return to be filed prior to April 15th so the stimulus payment could be calculated properly.
Fewer tax credits without children is correct, however, many taxpayers have other scheduled deductions that do not include children. These deductions effect your tax liability.
The IRS stimulus check math formula is done for every tax return filed.

for i have ason whose speacil and didnot get no money for him and filed my 2007 taxes and clamed himon my taxes at the end of the year
July 17th, 2008 at 12:27 am
The only income I receive is the pension from my husband job. I always file my taxes. I do not owe, as a matter of fact, I did receive a refund. Do I receive a stimulus check. According to the schedule, I should have already received a notice and/or a check, but I haven’t . I don’t have to file state taxes, only federal, is that why I didn’t receive a check?

Okay, I’m a little annoyed with the IRS right now! I got a letter a month ago stating that my stimulus check was scheduled to arrive by July 5th. Well, it’s the 23rd and still no check! The strange thing is that my husband got his check on the 7th and didn’t even receive a letter beforehand. His letter came two weeks later. Then, my cousin received her letter and check on the same day! What’s really going on?? The letter is saying that action can’t be taken until August 1st if the check isn’t received. Is anyone else still without their check?

Bonita Jo, depending when your amended return is processed, you may have to claim the rest of your Stimulus Payment next year. There is a cut off date for processing Stimulus checks.
Josephine, The July 11 date is when IRS put your check in the mail. If you have government debts your payment will be applied to those. If your address is not correct, your check will be returned to IRS awaiting your address correction.
CJ, If your check was mailed, IRS cannot take any action until the 4th week after it was mailede. That is the USPS Post Office requirement for returning undeliverable mail.
Scott, There are many reasons you may not qualify. One is if there was a mistake on your tax return relating to a Social Security number or last name for a dependent. If you have self employment income, the calculation gets a little dicey. If your tax return is being reviewed, your Stimulus may have to be claimed on next year’s tax return.
Brenda, if you do not receive Social Security, your pension income by itself will not count.
Kim, if your son is over 16 yr old, he will not count.

Lois! Never put your Social Security on the internet.
http://www.IRS.gov Call 1-800-829-0922 or go to
If you got your original refund, you should get your stimulus if you qualify. Make sure IRS has your correct mailing address.

Its August 18, 2008…I still havent gotten mine either. have you check online and if you were delayed, then they say it will be b4 the end of august. I called had a delay -1647- reference no. 726., they say since i owed money at the beginning of tax season(even though they deducted from the refund), there was a delay. they said it wasn’t done processing!!!!after all this time!! Anyway they said I should have gotten it on August 16, 2008. IT DIDNT COME… i say dont count on it, if or when it comes just think of it as a blessing …will keep posting
