Should the Tigers Call Percival Again?

Three years ago this week the Detroit Tigers signed Troy Percival as the club’s new closer. Unfortunately his career in Detroit was a short-lived one due to injury.Fast forward to last year and Percival’s comeback with the Cardinals (many thought he’d return to Detroit out of loyalty, if nothing else. [Insert punch line here]). Relying on nothing but the history of pitchers making comebacks (remember Jim Palmer in 1990?), I expected Percival to fizzle out.Surprise, surprise. The 37 year old put together a solid (shortened) year: 3-0 in 34 games (40 IP, 24 H, 10 BB, 36 K). According to ESPN.com’s Rumor Central he’s looking for another contract and several teams are interested:
Why aren’t the Tigers in the mix? They have one more bullpen slot to fill and, based purely on 2007 performance, isn’t Percival a stronger bet for 2008 than Jason Grilli?Discuss.
