About Tyler Slack

I am a father of two wonderful children which has resulted in much volunteer work for the PTA in Tooele, Utah where I live. My wife is lucky enough to stay at home and raise our children, but only because of my great side gig working for the Utah Jazz during home games where I’m a Chyron Operator. I also work as a Network Administrator for the Utah State Office of Education and I really enjoy that, as well.

I write for all who wish to read and for many purposes. I named the blog “Desultory Thoughts” for a reason, mainly because I didn’t want to pin myself to one topic. There are so many things that interest me. In order to write even half decent I need to write about things that I’m passionate about, and focus and interests may change over the years. In order to leave my options open I decided not to adopt any particular subject. Therefore, you’ll read about topics in my blog that I love and some will always stay the same – my family, friends and hobbies, for example.

I’ve invited a friend to guest blog and he does it under the alias of D. Sirmize. Writing anonymously allows him to be open and free with his thoughts. I’ve always loved his writing, even when he states his opinion so strongly that I can’t completely agree with it. For a brief description and further introduction of this writing talent, please read “Introducing D. Sirmize – Permanent Guest“. To read my favorite post to date written by the artful and clever D. Sirmize read “Cold. Refreshing. Healthful. It’s all about the Pop.

Now, a quick change of topic. Like you, I read a lot of blogs. And, probably like you, I sometimes wonder who this person is that’s writing this. What is their background? Why does he/she have this opinion? Often I’ll click on the “About” link to hopefully get a better idea, but almost always I’m unable to really tell anything from it.

You’ve wondered about who I am, which is why you ended up on this page. I’d like to attempt to tell you so that maybe you’ll understand why I’ve written what I have. I only do this because of the frustration that comes from combing through post after post only to find out bits and pieces of what makes me who the writer is. Like I said, I’ve been there, wasting too much time trying to understand more about the author and it’s frustrating.
