Google phone no longer a rumor – not likely immediate hit

Google is hoping to bring a mobile device to market by mid next year. They’re not going to manufacture devices, but rather license the “google mobile platform” to the OEM’s instead, and push for innovation from third party developers.
These devices will all be wi-fi enabled, and hopefully switch seamless between the carrer and wi-fi networks.

This should obviously lower the prices for smart devices in the market, and generate more demand for data usage on mobile devices. However, they’re still going to have to fight it out with Nokia and Apple who are both pushing massive media/software services in addition to just being a “device” company.

Nokia – Purchased Navteq, Twango, & enpocket in recent months….they fully intend to be a “social” mobile internet company and compete head to head with Google for the mobile ad business.

Apple – itunes, movies etc.. u know the story.

The point: I don’t think Google will disrupt the end user market initially. Nokia will already be able to offer much of what Google can….it’s going to take some time for them to see big success in the mobile space.
