the inconvenient truth - alcohol
August 23rd, 2007 | by geo |I always thought that consuming a glass of red wine, or a diet coke with bacardi is much “healthier” (relative term) than pounding a beer.
The inconvenient truth - This is not true.
In summary:
1 lite beer - 110 calories, 3.2 carbs
1 red wine - 120 calories, 5 carbs
1 diet coke/bacardi - 96 calories.
Ok, so you get reservatol and the great antioxidant benefits of red wine, but it’s still equally as bad for you as a beer. Diet coke & bacardi is a good choice…but who cares about 14 calories…? My view-Â it’s all the same.

I was actually sitting at home Thursday evening drinking a Rum and diet Coke, when I read this post. Just before I read your post, I was on Bacardi’s website to check the nutritional facts. What a coincidence! Site state 60 cals per 1 oz, 0 Grams of Carbs and 0 Grams of fat. Beer and wine may have about the same calories, but rum and diet has no carbs. If you are watching you “bad” carbs, then beer and wine is not for you unless done in moderation once in awhile. If you do not overdue the Bacardi, then a the mix drink is for you.
