Muriel E. Kernan

Muriel Elizabeth Kernan, age 78, of North Canton OH and Sun City, AZ, passed on to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer on October 31 in Sun City, AZ. She leaves behind her husband Donald Leonard Kernan to whom she was his loving angel and caring wife of 53 years, her only son Michael Lise of Magnolia to whom she was a loving mother, and her grandchildren of whom she was so proud, Kelly Kernan and Sean Kernan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her only sister. Muriel was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on July 1, 1930 to her mother Anne Anderson Harris and father William James Anderson. In 1954 she bravely traveled to live in the USA as did her only sister, Joan Ness, where in Chicago she then met and soon fell in love with her dedicated husband, Donald. Throughout her life, Muriel would fondly recall her younger days growing up in Ireland and shared many Irish memories and experiences. For many of her married years she loved to bowl, play golf, and have fun with friends and family. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service in Magnolia, Ohio will follow upon the return of her cremains at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Muriel’s name to The American Cancer Society. William C. “Bill” Hellman, 79, of Peoria passed away October 31, 2008. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and a great friend to all. Bill was an Arizona native born in Phoenix. He retired from the IBEW Local #769 and was a veteran of the US Air Force having served in the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Ann; children Rita & Joe Hannum of Las Vegas, NV, Robert Hellman of Oklahoma City, OK, Debbie & Harold Bloomer of Show Low, AZ, William “Chris” & Janet Hellman of Spokane, WA, Therese Halsey of Peoria, AZ and Rick & Melissa Acord of Peoria, AZ; step-children Debbie & Frank Lauro of Coeur d Alene, ID, Theresa Gerbig of Phoenix, AZ, David & Cathy Gerbig of Glendale, AZ, Chuck Gerbig of Yale, OK and Chris Gerbig of Robin Warner, GA ; sister Jean Hemingway; 21 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; preceding him in death is son Chuck Hellman in 1991. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. with Rosary at 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 3, 2008 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City. Funeral mass at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at St. Joachim & St. Anne Catholic Church, 11625 N. 111th Ave., Sun City, AZ with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale, AZ. Patrick J Sheeran
Born August 7, 1926 in Chicago, IL. passed away with family by his side, October 30, 2008, in Sun City West, Arizona. Patrick is survived by the children of his late wife, Vivian Gibney, they are Mary Pat Sindowski Tom, Thomas J Sheeran Sonia, Michael Sheeran and William Sheeran Susan. Survived by his late wife Frances Simandl and her daughter Germaine Till Gene. Patrick remarried April 29, 2007 to Shirley Mae Parks and is survived by her children, Shelley Davis Frank, and Robert M Parks Allison. He is also survived by his sister Winifred Herold Alfred and Eleanor Sheeran, the wife of Patrick’s late brother James. He leaves many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Patrick was a member the Elks Lodge, Moose, American Legion and held the position of Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He retired as a glazier and was a member of Local 27. Following his retirement, he became a resident of Sun Village in Surprise Arizona where he was an avid golfer; enjoyed traveling and cruising and socializing with his many, many friends. Pat was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church and attended Crown of Life Lutheran Church with his loving wife Shirley.
Funeral services will be held at St Christina Catholic Church in Chicago.
Celebration of Patrick’s life will be held at Sun Village to be announced at a later date. Donations may be made to a Hospice of your choice. Menke Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Thomas Warren Travers, Sr. died surrounded by his family Saturday, October 25th in Sun City after a brief illness. He was the loving father of Thomas Sara W. Travers, Jr. and the late James William Travers, grandfather of James Thomas Moodie and loving great grandfather of Travers Dylan Moodie. Thomas also leaves his sister Celeste Roach of Vernon, CT and the late William J. Travers, Jr., former husband of Dorothy Travers Sawyer. Born in Boston, MA, Tom lived in Weymouth, MA until he moved to Sun City, AZ in 2004, to be near his son. Tom worked for George Jacques Co. for 25 years. He was a lifetime member of the Weymouth Elks Lodge #2232 and was an avid golfer. He was loved by many nieces and nephews. Memorial Mass 9:00 a.m., Thursday, November 6, 2008 at St. Jerome’s Church 632 Bridge St., No. Weymouth, MA. Inurnment at Old North Cemetery in Weymouth, MA. A gathering will follow at noon at the Elk’s Hall, 1197 Washington St., E. Weymouth, MA.

Ina Jonethe Mellum, 93, of Sun City, AZ, passed away October 24, 2008.
Ina Jonethe Mellum, daughter of John and Nettie Sogge, was born May 30, 1915 in Jackson Co., MN. A graduate from Jackson High in 1933 and Teacher’s Training department in 1934, she taught in rural schools of Jackson Co., MN. She married Gordon Elness in 1940. Their son Roger was born in 1943, and Gordon died in 1944. Ina married Bert Mellum in 1950 and a second son, Bruce was born in 1952. The family moved to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1963. Bert died in 1978, and Ina moved to Sun City, AZ in 1980, where she lived until she passed away.
Throughout Ina’s life she was devoted to her family and her church. Ina was baptized and confirmed in Hauges Lutheran Church, rural Jackson, and was a member of Lutheran Churches in Jackson, Detroit Lakes, Ada, Hitterdal, and Sun City.
Ina is survived by her sons, Roger Mary Mellum of Houston, TX, and Bruce Mellum of Sun City, AZ; sisters Hilda Henry Furst of Hopkins, MN, and Lydia Muir of Youngtown, AZ; brothers-in-law John Gladys Mellum of Jackson, MN, and Reuben Clara Mellum of Columbus, OH; grandchildren Tracy Steven Dunn of Wynantskill, NY and Jennifer Ebanks of Seabrook, TX; great-grandchildren Jessica Ebanks, and Zachary, Christy, and Timothy Dunn; many loving nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Burial will take place at West Belmont Cemetery with service arrangements pending. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Lutheran Church Sewing and Crafts, 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85373.

Margaret Skidmore Criswell, 82, of Sun City, AZ passed away October 23, 2008. Margaret was born Oct. 29, 1925 in Front Royal, VA to Joseph & Maude Campbell Skidmore. A resident of West Haven, CT until 1990 before retiring to Sun City, she was a member of St. Joachim & St. Anne Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by great grand-daughter Stephanie Margaret Correia in 2000. Survivors include her husband of 56 years John W. Criswell; children Daniel W. Criswell Pamela of Phoenix, AZ and Wanda L. Guay-Folsom Michael of West Haven, CT; sister Anna Corupi of Riverview, MI; sister-in-law Arlene Criswell of Columbia, SD; step sister-in-law Lou Bodley and step brother-in-law Clem Wise both of Scottsdale, AZ; uncles Lloyd Campbell of Chester Gap, VA & Howard Campbell of Fredrick, MD; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Services and interment will be held in West Haven, Connecticut. Menke Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Charles H Meyer, age 93 died October 23rd in Sun City, Arizona.
Charles H Meyer was born to Charles and Anna Meyer on April 8, 1915 at Canistota, S. Dak. He graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1933. He entered the Air Force in 1942, served in the Pacific Theater and was honorable discharged in 1945. He assisted his brother Melvin in setting up the Ford Dealership in Bridgewater before joining the South Dakota Air Nat’I Guard. In 1948, he joined the Postal Service in Sioux Falls, retiring in 1977.
He married Joyce Christopherson in 1948. They lived in Sioux Falls for 47 years before moving to Sun City, Arizona in 1995. Charles and his wife Joyce celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July of this year.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, son Clark Meyer and wife Mary of Houston, Texas, Daughter-in-law Pat Reagan of Sioux Falls, four granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. Also a brother-in-law Don Christopherson and wife Gypsy of Sun City and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is his son Douglas, his parents, 2 sisters Ernestine Feuchelm and Vella Bickett, and three brothers Wayne, Phillip and Melvin.
Marion A. Chambers

Marion Audrey Chambers of Sun City died October 20 of cancer at age 85.
She was born August 18, 1923, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Carl and Minnie Hedahl Johnson. She married Spencer Allen Chambers in Duluth, in 1947. He died in 1994.
Marion graduated from Central High School and St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Duluth. She worked as an RN in Dallas, Texas and Phoenix. Her hobbies included needlepoint, furniture refinishing, bridge, and bible study. She enjoyed spending the summer months in Forest Lakes where, along with her friend Mary, she started a local vacation bible school. Marion was a member of American Lutheran Church of Sun City.
Survivors include her brother, Donald C. Johnson of Myrtle Point, OR, her son John A. Chambers of Los Angeles, CA , three granddaughters, Andrea, Erica and Erin and two great-granddaughters, Kaytlyn and Hannah all of Tucson, AZ. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2008 at American Lutheran Church, 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ.
