Walter Ernest Roder

Walter Roder, 78, of Sun City passed away Dec. 31, 2008. He was the son of John and Nellie Roder and spent his young life in Neilsville, WI. In the early 40′s the family moved to Waukesha, WI. Wally enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. After the war, instead of jumping out of airplanes he earned his pilot’s license and built his own. The first one was an Acrosport which he flew for 13 years. The second was a Pitts Special after settling in Sun City. It was 99% completed when Wally suffered a heart attack which ended his flying days. He was a member of the Experimental Aviation Assn., the Sun City Roller Skating Club, the Saturday Night Dance Club, and the Metal Club of Sun City. Wally is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marimae. He is also survived by 4 sisters, 2 brothers, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service and burial will be in Mayville, Wisconsin. Menke Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Another Angel Get’s Her Wings – Patricia Ann Darling Hughes, 75,
on Monday, December 31, 2007 peacefully received her wings at home
in Sun City, AZ, formally of Macedon, NY.

Predeceased by parents: Zach and Nell Hughes; daughter: Heather; sister Billie Smith. She is survived by Art Darling and her loving children: Robin Murphy Michael and Jonathan Laura; grandchildren: Jason Tania, Jonathan Courtney, Timothy, Stephen and Philip; siblings: Norma Callender, Charles “Bubba” Carswell Dianne and Zacklin Akshar; nieces, nephews and good friends she loved as family.

She retired from Wegmans in 1999 and upon arriving in Sun City quickly adapted to the City of Volunteers. Her active participation in the St. Joachims and St. Anne Church, Catholic Daughters of America; Condo Association, Boswell Hospital and Interfaith Community Care will be missed.

Patty loved her friends & family and will leave a hole in many lives. Please rejoice in the fact she lived her Christian life to it’s fullest doing for others. Thank you for loving our Mom…we miss her.

Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m.-12:30 pm, Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave, Sun City, a funeral mass will be follow at 1:00 pm at St. Joachim and St. Anne Church in Sun City, 11625 N. 111th Ave., Sun City, AZ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Patricia Darling to Interfaith Community Care, 17749 N. El Mirage Road, Surprise, Arizona 85374

David N. Newsted, 62 of Sun City, passed away Dec. 26, 2008. He was from Michigan. He had been a forklift operator in the automotive industry before his retirement, and served in the U.S. Army. Private family arrangements have been made.

Arthur W. Carroll, 67 of Sun City, passed away December 24, 2008. Mr. Carroll was from New York and had served in the U.S. Marines. A Memorial service will be held at Menke Funeral Home at 11:30 am on Friday, January 16, 2008. Interment will be prior to the memorial service at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Arthur may be made to Hospice of Arizona, 2222 W. Northern Ave., Ste #A-100, Phoenix, AZ 85021.

Leo Bernard Thomas, 80, of Golden Valley, AZ passed away Dec. 24, 2008 in Phoenix. Born in Los Angeles, CA he was a WW II US Navy veteran. An Arizona resident since 1976, he was a custom cabinet maker. Survivors include his wife Rita; sons Mark, Joseph, Steven, Philip, Michael & David; daughters Anne, Peggy, Patricia & Donna; brother Joseph and sister Mary; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 330 W. Coral Gables Dr., Phoenix, AZ. Inurnment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

Harriett Stringer, 81 of Youngtown, passed away Dec. 20, 2008. She moved to Arizona from Florida in 1990 and was an elementary school teacher. A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Sun City, 11019 E. Peoria Ave., Sun City, AZ 85951.

Effie Loree Sorrell

Loree Sorrell, 93, born in Tennessee where she lived until moving to Arizona in 1934 with husband Thomas Calvin Rye Scott. They are survived by eight children, Delores, Joann, Rebecca, Bobbi, Larry, Tomme, Ronny and Jerry Scott and spouses. Loree married Wade Sorrell in 1951. She outlived both husbands and never remarried. She died Friday morning, 12/19/08 in her home in Glendale and will be remembered for her sense of humor and quick wit. A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Our Christmas Angel

David A. Boniface

Just 60 – David A. Boniface-Warm hearted, funny, loving & adoring husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord. David was taken from us suddenly on 12/18/08 and although God’s timing isn’t always our timing, we trust God’s decision because we know David gets to celebrate the birth of Christ in Heaven – singing with the angels. Halleluia!! He loved to try new foods and share the experience with his grandchildren, he loved to teach children about Jesus. He was an amateur photographer, he loved to carve whittle, and he loved his family with all of his heart. He left behind his wife Phyllis; his son Bill Boniface Casey; four daughters Susan Clemmer Jeff, Kathy Gosney Ed, Brenda Gray Will, Chandra Beaman Matt and 10 wonderful grandchildren, Seth Boniface, Kevin, Garrett, Breanna, Samantha, Alex, Chase, Jaclyn, Darin and Wayne. Also surviving are his brother Jim Boniface and sister Sandra Doll. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Menke Funeral Home Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ.
