A date which will live in infamy

I wanted to take a moment and show some link love to several blogs with informative and moving posts covering the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941:
I commented earlier today to a few of my co-workers that I had noticed less and less coverage about the anniversary of Pearl Harbor in the media. One spoke up saying that he believed that we should “let it go already,” that it would be like “picking at a scab on a wound.”
My faith teaches forgiveness, and I am the first to admit that perhaps I need to practice a bit more of that. But forgiving a wrong does not also mean forgetting it altogether. George Santayana said, “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
So what has this generation of Americans learned?
Michelle Malkin ended her post with these three simple words:
Remember.
Reflect.
Learn.
I’d say those make pretty good instructions for today. I think everyone needs to take a moment to really think about the events that happened 66 years ago and wonder to themselves: “Have we ‘learned’ anything yet?”

First off…Thanks for link..love.. :wink: .
That same “person” (and I’m being nice here by using that word :mad: ) who said “let it go already” is the same type of person who probably says the same thing about Memorial Day, Veterans Day, 9/11 and other days of remembrance. I have little, or no respect for those folks, because it’s the thinking behind that statement that is severally flawed.
Throughout this day, I’ve perused many blogs, and I’ve really taken notice that many folks like you and others are either asking, stating or truly concerned that our great nation has changed since WWII. There is obviously a very noticible lack of unity, National pride, love of country and pariotism (now considered a dirty word by some), and it seems to be based in, at least in part, a severe lack of teaching by parents and school systems about what our nation is really about and our honorable history.
You are so correct to use Santayana’s quote regarding this issue, and BTW, most folks attribute that statement to the wrong person(s)…but you’re such a smart person, ya got it right missy… :razz:
