Hi y’all,
Well, this is interÂestÂing. I’m tryÂing to include a table in this post, and that apparÂently is tricky.
So, as I’ve writÂten below, I want to include an ‘alterÂnate week’ post on this blog. It’s a way to proÂvide you with recÂomÂmenÂdaÂtions about books and music, and to add sugÂgesÂtions about BodyÂwork, sexÂuÂalÂity, and other topÂics of interest.
This issue has two book recÂomÂmenÂdaÂtions, as well as a note about “The Lilac FesÂtiÂval,†comÂplete with photos.
I’ve included links to Amazon.com and Amazon.ca for your conÂveÂnience. If you’re conÂsidÂerÂing buyÂing either of these books, please use the links below and help supÂport our work!
HardÂcore Zen
A couÂple of months ago, I subÂscribed to ShambÂhala Sun, and found a menÂtion of this book. I was intrigued by the title AND the subÂtiÂtle, which is “Punk Rock, MonÂster Movies, and the Truth about RealÂity.†I ordered the book, and thorÂoughly enjoyed it.
Brad Warner, the author, makes it clear that all that there is, is all that there is. NothÂing and everyÂthing is sacred, nothÂing and everyÂthing is proÂfane. Unless we get this, as an interÂnal ‘felt sense’, we are doomed, as is the world. And the thing we ‘get’ is that livÂing in our heads as opposed to in the essence of the moment, is the cause of our distress.
You really want to read this book!
The 4-Hour Workweek
Another eleÂgant book, and I’m frusÂtrated, because the author is 29. He’s figÂured out a way to leverÂage his InterÂnet busiÂness into an outÂsourced huge income, freeÂing him to live his life anyÂwhere in the world. He asks us to quesÂtion the wisÂdom of slavÂing for 40 years in order to ‘enjoy’ a retireÂment that may never happen.
If you are conÂsidÂerÂing a close examÂiÂnaÂtion of how you are livÂing, what you are putting off, and what you are setÂtling for (the cubiÂcle nation, perÂhaps?) have a look at this book. You just might find a way to pack it in and join us next year in Costa Rica!
The joys of Canada, HikÂing, and the Lilac Festival
DarÂbella and I have gotÂten back into the ‘weekÂend 10 km. hike’ habit. Last weekÂend we disÂcovÂered a bike and hike path in KitchÂener (where we live) the runs along a forÂmer railÂroad right-of-way. We hiked 5 kliks, had lunch, and hiked back. We even met one of my favourite clients on the way.
YesÂterÂday, we headed off to BurlingÂton, to the Royal BotanÂiÂcal GarÂdens. It’s ‘Lilac FesÂtiÂval’ time, and we had a riot smelling, then going to a 10 km hike through lovely Ontario bush.
thought you might like to see a photo or two:
- Crowds flock to smell the Lilacs

- This fesÂtiÂval is a big deal, attractÂing thouÂsands and thouÂsands, to one of the largest colÂlecÂtions of lilac bushes in N. America.
- Wayne, enjoyÂing

- Good enough to eat.
- The lovely Darbella

- Dar loves both hikÂing and flowÂers. You can tell by her grin.
- Wayne wonÂders, “do you like my hat?â€

- Wayne has decided to actuÂally do someÂthing about his love of hats. John Kennedy had his way for 47 years (he hated and refused to wear a hat, which effecÂtively ended ‘hats’) — it’s time for the re-birth of cool lids.
