NoBounds And The N810 Show The Future Of The Internet Tablets

One of the ‘easter eggs’ in the Nokia N810 that users have found is the ability to use the microUSB port for things such as USB keyboards, USB storage drives, and the like. Kate has put together a great little app called USB-OTG-Plugin which allows the user to quickly and easily switch the USB port between the appropriate host modes.
Here’s a quick tutorial on what you’d need to do with your N810 now (I’m in the process of ordering the correct cables and will do a piece on this in the future here on Tablet-Guru.com). It’s not really difficult at all, and of course there are limitations in terms of the power requirements of the USB device. However, for a small drive or a keyboard, it’s completely usable.
Enter in a project from the Nokia Research Center in Bochum, Germany called noBounds. This is running on a current Nokia N810 and allows the user to connect the Internet Tablet to a larger external display via USB or WLAN, converting the N810 easily into a very pocketable mobile computer.
There’s a video here that you should definitely watch, and I think this is a completely fascinating idea and am really looking forward to being able to use my N810 as a portable computer even moreso than I already do.

I tried this with my n810. USB sticks worked for me, but SD cards in a USB cardreader didn’t. My goal was to be able to use the n810 as a kind of camera companion - move files from camera to device for backup and viewing. BTW, connecting my camera directly to the device did not work either. Have you tried an SD card reader?
