Thursday Thirteen ~ 13 Favorite Restaurants
April 2, 2008 > 23 Comments
I am taking a break from my usual Thursday Thirteen routine of giving tips, recommendations, or ideas. This week, since I still feel like I am on vacation (the kids aren’t doing school) I am listing 13 of my favorite restaurants.
Five Guys – Cheap, fast, and good. Panera – A little less cheap, fast, and consistently good. Steak and Shake – People who know me will tell you that I will drive a good distance out of my way for a steak burger and some chili. Outback- Two words…. Cheese Fries. Freemason Abbey – If you are ever in Norfolk, VA you must eat here. It isn’t cheap, but the food is amazing, the atmosphere is great (it is in a converted church), and I have never had bad service. Lynnhaven Fishhouse Virginia Beach, VA – right on the water, great seafood and steak, excellent service. Sol de Mexico – A hole in the wall place in VA Beach. Great authentic Mexican food. The prices aren’t bad and they are fast. Cafe’ Bella Franklin, WV – Where you can get the best manicotti in the same place you can get a fried pork chop, only in rural WV. White Wolf Cafe Orlando, Fl – good food, eclectic atmosphere, you can shop and eat. Cafe Alcazar St. Augustine, Florida – Eat your lunch in the bottom of an indoor pool, in a museum, different, fun, and artsy. Cantlers Annapolis, Maryland – A downhome place where the waitresses still call you hon’ and sweetie. Fresh crab delivered right to your table. Amigos Altamonte Springs, FL – Great Tex-Mex, casual atmosphere, and pretty inexpensive. Readers Choice – What is your favorite dining spot?

Wow, you have been all over the place! The only one of these I’m familiar with is Panera Bread. I’ve eaten there a couple of times, and I like it.
My favorite place? Um… we eat a lot at Runza, a local fast food chain. Best fries and burgers in the state, I think. And their salads are good too.

#4 – You are so right!
This would be a good place to promote my sister’s new restaurant in Memphis: Cafe Eclectic!
(Sorry, couldn’t help it)
Good list – no it isn’t – I’m forced to eat my own cooking tonight and it is always vile!

Actually #4 on your list is my favorite restaurant. Have you ever had the appetizer Grilled Shrimp on the Barbie? The garlic styled toast, the shrimp, the sauce… mmm!! I could eat that all day!

No. 2 is very cool, but I most definitely prefer the nearest Greek diner to anything at all. There’s a lovely one in NY State at the end of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge that is to die for. They can cook anything in five minutes flat.

Gosh, we are in the middle of a big transition. We used to eat out a lot, but now rarely do. So I don’t know if I have a favorite restaurant. Right now, it’s just delicious to sit in our quiet house for a meal!
Happy TT!

O I am drooling at the thought of a Steak And Shake burger and fries and shake. I have a weakness for seafood – anywhere
April 2nd, 2008 @ 8:25 pm
Your number 8 is so true. Another one is Family & Friends in Lewisburg, WV. For good seafood, Aunt Catfish’s in South Daytona Beach, FL.
April 2nd, 2008 @ 8:48 pm
We have Steak n Shake, Panera and Outback here in Chicago — I’ve haven’t been to Steak n Shake tho — but Panera and Outback are 2 of our favorites! We love Olive Garden and a local Japanese Steakhouse — mmmm! Gosh, we already had dinner and I’m getting hungry!!
Great idea for a TT!

Wow…you have a lot of restaurant favorites that I’ve never heard of! Oh how I wish we could get some of your good seafood in the midwest!
April 2nd, 2008 @ 10:24 pm
I wonder if we really know each other at all…Macaroni Grill!!!
Momhuebert lives in my neck of the woods. Runza is a Nebraska thing.
April 2nd, 2008 @ 11:22 pm
My favorite is Bajio’s Mexican Grill…unfortunately we don’t have one here. My husband loves Tucano’s…we don’t have that here either…sigh…
April 2nd, 2008 @ 11:25 pm
because of food allergies, we don’t eat out much….but when we do it is Pappadeaux’s!! if you are ever in TX look them up!

My favorite place of all time is P.F. Chang’s that is a little fancy. But Lolita’s is a hole in the wall taco shop near our home and it is AMAZING! Elizabeth

Just went to St. Augustine a month ago and my new favorite is: Cortesse’s Bistro & Flamingo Room (reasonable, and the best salmon!)
In New Orleans: Juan’s Flying Burrito (cheapish with the best chicken and sweet potato quesadilla)
Altamonte: Il Paridiso Cafe (across from mini-golf on 436) brand new Italian place. Yummy! Oh, and 5 Guys is great for the hamburger cravings!

You MUST be following me, or I’m following you! I have been to all you restaurants and I agree with all your choices! Now you can try… LaHacienda, Houston, TX; Palm all the larger cities; Frenchy’s, Clearwater Beach (you might meet a pirate or get a good attorney here; Dixie Crossroads, Titusville, FL; Shaw’s, Lancaster,OH. I know I have been to some other fab places, but I’ve forgotten their names or just plain forgot them!! Oh yesterday I had a great Tilapia with mango sauce at Bahama Breeze in Altamonte Springs, FL (just down the street from Steak N Shake! YUMMMMMMIE!

Ah, I only have a few of these restaurants nearby
Outback, Panera and Steak N Shake.
My personal favorites are Chili’s for those uber fattening fries with cheese, bacon and ranch dressing and Culver’s for burgers! Haven’t had Steak N Shake in a long time, but oh how I love thee!
April 3rd, 2008 @ 10:14 am
LOL I agree 100% with #8!!!!!!

For those planning to visit Seattle, put Jak’s on your agenda. It’s a steakhouse but with none of the pretense (or cost) of modern steakhouses. Their steaks match up to the standard of the big places like Morton’s and Ruth’s Chris as well as the more popular local places, like El Gaucho. And the cost is half what those are.
And the biggest plus — the sides come with the meal; a truly modern concept.

I use to live in Orlando and so miss Amigos! I also love, love, lose Panera bread.
April 3rd, 2008 @ 9:44 pm
I LOVE Panera!
I think my favorites are Ponderosa/Old Country Buffet– the buffets are wonderful for large families
April 3rd, 2008 @ 11:37 pm
I could live on the bread sticks from Olive Garden!
April 4th, 2008 @ 2:58 pm
Charlie’s Reef in Jupiter, Florida is tops with me! I also love the crabcakes at the Narrows restaurant at Kent Narrows, Maryland. Cafe Alcazar is a favorite lunch spot in St. Augustine. Nice post.
